Don sL-IMUS: "I want that other pope back"
He was referring to the recently deceased one. I'll go one better: John XXIII.

How things might have been different with John XXIII.

Instead we have Ratzinger, the preeminent member of the nazi "youth."

4. Actually, John Paul I had some amazingly refreshing ideas,
He was pro birth control. He was pro gay. Etc. And he was fairly young for a Pope and pretty healthy, too.

He lasted about a month. No autopsy.

6. Bush had nothing to do with it.
Jeez.

The guy's had his sleazy fingers in a lot of things but pope-picking isn't one of them.

7. It's not like the Bush family aren't buds with Pope Ratzo:
Neil Bush, Ratzinger co-founders
Neil Bush, the president's controversial younger brother, six years ago joined the cardinal who this week became Pope Benedict XVI as a founding board member of a little known Swiss ecumenical foundation. ...

11. The funny thing about the official Catholic propaganda on John Paul 1

Is that it goes way, way, way, out of its way to say he wouldn't have changed a thing. It's kinda chilling. He was famous in Italy for being a rebel and was continuously quoted while Archbishop of Venice as taking stands on issues in direct opposition to the Pope. Even got reprimanded. And yet, history has recorded him as being kind of lukewarm and a standard issue priest. There is much reason to believe that he was planning BIG changes, had perhaps informed the inner circle of Vatican power and was on the threshold of making an announcement of some sort. He was a nice man, too. Laughed a lot. Built a lot of orphanages and spoke out against old ideas that stigmatized unwed mothers.

Also jogged a lot.

You see, as an autonomous "state" Vatican City is not under any obligation to have autopsies, etc.
