Cat saves baby's life

BERLIN (Reuters) - A cat saved the life of a newborn baby abandoned on the doorstep of a Cologne house in the middle of the night by meowing loudly until someone woke up, a police spokesman said Saturday.

"The cat is a hero," Cologne police spokesman Uwe Beier said. "Its loud meowing got the attention of the homeowner and saved the baby from suffering life-threatening hypothermia. The homeowner opened door to see why the cat was making so much noise and discovered the newborn."

Beier said the boy was taken to hospital at 5 a.m. on Thursday, when overnight temperatures fell toward zero, and had suffered only mild hypothermia. He said there was no indication of what happened to the boy's mother

5. My first frend was a tuxedo kitty named Mittens

who had a truly foul disposition. My mother would leave the baby carrige with me in it out on the street when she went shopping because it was a pain in the ass to try to get it into a store. Mittens was curled up with me. Whenever anyone reached into that carriage, s/he withdrew a bloody stump, courtesy of a very protective Mittens.

That's probably why I've always loved cats.

I'm not surprised about this. My cats warn me when someone is approaching the front door.

The more I see of Oberon, the more I adore him. Those are darling pictures. If I ever met your cats, I'm sure I'd make a complete ass of myself over them.

Maybe grey and white tomcats are just that way; my grey and white Coon (Thomas isn't striped like Obie) *loves* taking care of other cats. If my server were up, I'd post a picture of Tommy with babies that's almost as cute as the ones you posted.

I'd love to see Tommy's photos too! I Think it is a "coon cat" thing; every Maine Coon i've met is incredibly patient and loving.

By the way, the kitten in these photos is now bigger than Oberon! He's 21 lean pounds and the vet says he'll be 25 before he's done growing (I bumped into his "mom" at the pet supply store recently, who's a very petite young Indian woman. They make quite a pair)!









it's "shedding season" when these photos are taken, and that's why Obie looks like a furry gray haystack (even his stripes have disappeared in all that loose hair). That's the only drawback of the breed; tumbleweeds of fur everywhere in the spring! Come to think of it, I'd better get out the vacuuum....;-)

8. My cats always let me know when the baby is crying...

No need for a monitor in our house. The other day I was taking a shower while he napped, and one of the cats came into the bathroom only minutes after I got in. He meowed and walked oddly past the shower door. I got out, and went to check the baby - sure enough, his paci had fallen out, and he was fussing. And if for any reason, we're dead asleep, the cats will wake us up in the middle of the night to check him.

I'm a "cat person". Have had some amazing cats in my life.
One of my cats (way back when) taught himself to use the
toilet simply by observing people using it. I kid you not.
(Siamese Cat). My mom told my dad that the cat was using the
toilet not the litter, and my dad didn't believe her at all!!
untilllllllll.....in the middle of the night dad heads to the
can, flips the light on, and "guess who's using the toilet"?
That cat was amazingly smart.

I have to assume that these cats feel very secure with their owners to put up with their owners' silliness, so to me it shows a bond of trust and love. Or maybe the cats just didn't feel like getting up:

Anybody who doesn't think cats are as tolerant and patient as dogs would change their minds when they see these kitties. Also, they seem to have a sense of humor that most folks wouldn't expect from cats.
