Transgender Republican takes on House Whip Blunt for Missouri seat

In many ways, Midge Potts is like other everyday citizens who feel the call of politics. The self-described fiscal conservative and Eisenhower Republican is running a one-person primary campaign against five-term congressman and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt in southwest Missouri's 7th District.

A few things set Potts, 37, apart from many Republican candidates. She thinks President Bush should be impeached over his domestic spying program, for example. And she used to be a he.

"Even though I have my own unique niche, being transgender, I really feel like I'm a candidate of the regular people, for the regular people," Potts told The Associated Press.

"People are seeing what I stand for. I'm not for a gay or a transgender agenda, I'm for equal rights for all people," she said.

3. Here's something I found interesting. I tried to send this out to friends

who would be interested by the content.

All my other emails had no problem being transferred (Im on Mozilla Thunderbird) and this email I sent out, apparently only was received (I sent numerous times to verify) by one person. Interestingly enough, the one person who is least likely to be personally interested in the race.

Anyone else had problems with Thunderbird (or Earthlink) censoring?

It would appear Republicans are scared to death this race will get publicity - namely via email and computer.

Send it yourself to friends and see if it is transferred to everyone. Hopefully it will be!

Midge seems to be shaking things up, and there is reason that she should.

She is showing that ALL Americans can run and should run for positions of leadership, no matter who they are and what financial or gender specific back ground they come from

But why is she running as a Republican? I'm not saying she could necessarily be nominated by the Democrats, but her chances in a GOP primary are exactly nil.

Much too concerned with other people, rather than just herself, to be a REAL republican. Judging from what the website says, her ideas aren't very narrow-minded at all.

5. Well, She's A Republican I Could Live With

"Those anti-abortionists who are against family planning are not thinking sensibly. Birth control, especially condoms, should definitely be available for those who do not choose abstinence. Suggesting that abstinece is the best form of "safe sex" does seem to be a good starting point for teaching sex education. However, the issue of abortion extends beyond any one age group, and it is not just unmarried teenagers who are choosing abortion.

Many of the women who make the choice to abort a fetus are married or in committed relationships. However they feel they are not financially able to provide for another child in their family. I feel it is actually very responsible to realize that if you cannot afford food, shelter and healthcare for a child, then it would be better to not bring one into the world. If we in America put more effort into bringing people out of poverty, the abortion rate would undoubtedly drop."

I first read her statement about being baptized and her Christian values and thought "Uh-oh" but then I read her abortion page, and while it's not perfect, it's pretty damn good.

On edit: the rest of her positions aren't too bad; on some I agree without reservations. Don't care about her gender status - that's her business - but I do wish her luck.

people would be a republican. She is either just another republican liar, or a complete idiot.
