Did anyone catch the great San Francisco earthquake on History Channel

I couldn't help but draw a comparison between that earthquake and Katrina.

I think if something on that scale were to happen today, Bush would probably skip the country rather than show some leadership.

1. Saw It

I didn't know there were so many serious fires in the aftermath of the quake. If another hits during Bush's watch, he won't do any better than he did during Katrina. :banghead:

2. The cover up after the quake

After the earthquake, the local officials hid the total death toll. There was also an effort to frame it as the Great Fire rather than the Great Earthquake. Earthquakes might happen again, so better to focus on the fire. All with the intention of pumping up rebuilding and profit. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

4. Don't Forget

Those mansions onwed by the rich folks of San Francisco were not destroyed by the earthquake.

They were destroyed by the fire.

Is it any wonder, then, that the rich folks tried to say that San Francisco was destroyed by fire???

5. actually, my understanding was it was an insurance issue:

Nearly everyone had fire insurance, but no one had quake insurance. I've been told by a history teacher that the city intentionally caused some fires to get the insurance.

My teacher could have been bs'ing me, though.

6. It was an awesome show!

I sat, rivited by the way the story unfolded. I knew a lot about the '06 quake, but there was a lot I didn't know. I think it is heartening to know that there is someone who is committed to getting an accurate account of the dead.

I wonder how long it will take for us to get an accurate accounting of Katrina victims?
