I have been admiring, endorsing, extolling and promoting the Minuteman Project since I first learned of its existence.

But this past weekend, I took the next logical step – I joined the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. That's right, I volunteered to join this courageous band of American patriots as a volunteer border watcher this fall.

These guys claim to be just taking pictures and calling authorities, but if they so much as threaten somebody, it's a crime. A private citizen can use force or the threat of force only in lawful self-defense.
