101 Degrees in Dallas today, rolling blackouts of power for 80% of Texas being reported on the Weather Channel.

Its April 15. Just Wait for August.

elderly, the very young and the infirm though, of course the power guys didn't give a shit about that for us, maybe for you it'll be different.

5. can you say planned outage

during the spring time, many power plants are "off-line" for refurbishment before the peak summer periods. warm weather at these times, in this case a shift of the jet stream pulling warm temps from mexico is the cause, stressing the grid. its only 90. 105 degrees on a summer dallas day causes few issues in the southwest. on april 17, when generation is down, that's problematic.

7. And With Texas Being an "Island" There's Not Backup

Just like Florida, or Hawaii, Texas is not well connected to the grid outside of the state's line so there's no backup transport for power if needed. Also, aren't most of the plants in Texas coal fired and running off that cheap low sulfur (and low BTU) Colorado and Wyoming coal? Because if that's the case it sort of surprises me to hear that they are shut down for spring time cleanup. It was my impression that those coal fired plants NEVER shut down for anything other than load following.

9. Well that explains why most of the traffic lights were out on the

way home from work today. It was hot and humid (August weather). Whenever someone said something about how hot it was today, I would day "2 words, global warming".
