Deja vu: McDonald's to Tout Healthier Menu Choices
McDonald's to Tout Healthier Menu Choices

McDonald's Corp. will promote its healthier menu choices to counter negative publicity expected from a new book co-written by the author of "Fast Food Nation," Chief Executive Jim Skinner said Monday.

While McDonald's maintains that the strategy is not aimed solely at undermining "Chew On This," which is due out next month, Skinner acknowledged that "it's important to ramp this up now" amid heavy criticism of the fast-food industry for its perceived role in increased obesity.

"I wouldn't call it a campaign," he told reporters in a news conference at McDonald's headquarters. "It is a continuous improvement relative to the communication of our story regarding our high-quality food in McDonald's."

The approach signifies a marked departure from the way the world's largest fast-food chain remained mostly quiet after being skewered in both Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation" in 2001 and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock's 2004 documentary, "Super Size Me."

4. Worst Veggie Burger EVER In McDonalds!!
Spit-it-out bad....dried out with sticky sweet BBQ sauce, and of course they always feature the hot lettuce and stuff on everything BLECH! I hate McDonalds except for one thing: THE COFFEE!! It's delish (if you get it first thing in the a.m., by afternoon it's rancid.)

They actually have vegetarians return the veggie burgers because they taste so much like real dead cow.

8. GACK!
McDonald's coffee is barely potable........but then, I have a Second Cup and a Timothy's and a Mövenpick/Richtree within walking distance, so I'm probably spoiled.

5. Good thing, too.
It took twice as much styrofoam to contain it.

7. Why do you think they got rid of it?
I could take a guess it might have had something to do with sales.

Peace.

16. Probably...but
Restaurants keep low selling items on the menu for more than just sales...allows them to advertise more variety, and to present a more healthy alternative on their menu.

11. Healthy choice... McDonalds
Those two concepts just don't go together, do they? Never will, IMO....

There's just too much profit invovled in fat, salt and sugar.

12. If last year's campaign is any guide, this is just propaganda.
McD's lauched a campaign to promote healthy lifestyles without changing
their menu. They talked the talk, but they wouldn't walk the walk.

Please exercise and eat healthy foods, but not here.

13. They have no role perceived or otherwise in obesity of people

That is determined in some by genetics, some by behavior, and I would assume in most by some of both.

17. You're equating one's weight with one's health.
Or am I misinterpreting?

18. I simply stated that I do not think there is a role that food providers

have in obesity.

19. You brought up obesity.
I'm not sure why, unless you are equating it with health.

last stop on the way to work..oops sorry no more salads..so I purchased a Whopper...got sicker than shit. Last fast food burger I ever bought...mcdonalds will do the same ... cause salads cost more than those fools are willing to put out. Not enough 'return on investment'. :grr:
