What if next terrorist attack is domestic? Warrantless spying?
What if the next terrorist attack to hit inside the US turns out to be domestic in nature, like the Oklahoma City bombing? How would the Administration handle the so-called "war on terror" then? Would warrantless wiretapping still go on inside our borders? Could you see a scenario where warrantless spying took place on members of the NRA?

1. If you mean another Timmy McVeigh or Eric Rudolph
then the 'terrorist' will be described as a frootloop and no particular effort to crack down on rightwing militants will occur. On the other hand if we have another 9-11, as many of us think is fairly likely, then expect overt fascism.

2. Nope. The NRA is their base.
Nothing the right wing does will provoke any action -- look at all the press that the guy with the storage locker full of explosives and automatic weapons in Texas got two years ago.

The what?

Exactly.

Even if RW crazies do something like OK City again, the resultant spying will not be on the RW crazies. The NRA will publish a statement about 'freedom' and 'responsibility' to divorce themselves from those particular nuts while not alienating themselves from the rest of their constituency, and the government will take the incident as an excuse to wiretap Quakers. And peace activists. And all those suspect people on Democratic voting rolls.

4. That's true, but Poiuyt makes a good argument to use against freepers
Tell the right wingers that they could be next under the right circumstances.

3. There is no "war on terror" as it's been sold to you

If there were, they would have put heavy funding into hardening all of our seaports, chemical plants, nuclear facilities, and water/food supply lines. Someone could walk to the reservoir, drop a few tablets, and kill half of Boise today, there would be no resistance to speak of. Recently the FBI I believe it was, crossed our southern border with god knows how much explosives, a small nuke or some-such, I can't remember the details offhand. They met with no resistance.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, they're planning to build 125 nuclear bombs per year. How the hell to you fight a loosely defined conglomeration of suicide bombing religious zealots, divided into small cells with nuclear bombs? You don't.

There is no war on terror. It's a ruse to enable other plans, and it's working very well. The next attack will result in martial law, as per General Tommy Franks own words.

Edited to add, it was radioactive material they brought in, enough to make two dirty bombs apparently.
