"I pledge allegiance .. to the ELEPHANT"???
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 10:53 AM by Sydnie
As someone stood up to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at a GOP dinner here Thursday, it was suddenly realized there was no flag in the room.

“Pledge to the elephant!” shouted Bob Watkins of the county Board of Education.

So the audience, which included Rep. Darrell Issa, state Senate Minority Leader Dick Ackerman, Assembly Republican Leader-Elect George Plescia and Mayor Jerry Sanders, turned toward the GOP banner and recited the pledge while facing the party's symbolic pachyderm.

Fortunately, it was a patriotic red, white and blue – with stars.

Gee, they aren't even hiding it anymore. They have replaced the flag with their "party" symbol. How could these "good americans" forget to have a flag in the room, since they seemed to have cornered the market on patriotism and all. Blows my mind!

3. The red, white, and blue elephant IS the symbol of the U.S.
The red, white, and blue elephant has ALWAYS been the symbol of the U.S.

War is peace.

Ignorance is strength.

Freedom is slavery.

So that Republican party members can pledge their allegiance to a gaudily-painted party symbol. What a country.
