Them reporters all just get giddy when Rumsfeld has said something that he thinks is funny. This is sickening when you realize the context of all this is death and suffering.

1. I was thinking the same thing...
And I thought it yesterday about Bush when I saw him panting like a dog and trying to look cool and smart. They don't care that our family members are in harm's way. They are getting rich! Getting rich makes one giddy, I suppose, regardless.

3. Keeping proper decorum and jovial rapport...
is soooo much more important than "all of us having the same facts", now isn't it?

(Love your sig line!)

4. Rummy is completely out of touch with reality -
and so are these specially invited handpicked media.

This is la la land and the whole world is watching.

:silly:

5. No doubt, they're the same bunch of media whores
who though the video of Dubya upending chairs and looking under the Oval Office carpet for Saddam's non-existent WMDs was such a side-splitter.

6. Where is that end of the war?
Maybe its under the podium. Or maybe its in that reporters notebook. Total fucking riot. No doubt he is an incredibly soothing force to the grieving parents and spouses and children.

8. I need your help! (Campus debate)
Hello,

I'm sorry I could not start my own topic--I haven't made enough posts on here for them to let me. Tomorrow Night, us College Democrats will be in a debate on campus here at the University of Mississippi against the Republicans and Libertarians (I couldn't find it in my heart to exclude anyone). I need to get some facts straight--I hope someone can provide:

1. I heard before Clinton's speech at the Boston convention that he was introduced as "The administration where more people moved up into the middle class than ever before." Is this true? Where can I find this cited?

2. Does anyone know how many House Democrats voted for the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (It raised interest on student loans)? I can find the Senate record, but the House is a pain in the neck to locate.

3. Same question for the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (A sinister giveaway to big drug companies).

4. How many troops do we still have in Kosovo? Is the casualty level still 0, after all these years?

5. What kind of alternative energy programs did Jimmy Carter have in place that Reagan dismantled? Whatever figures you have on this I would appreciate.

Thanks for the help guys, and as I piece stuff together, I'm sure there will be more!

~J

9. This isn't directly related to your questions,
but you might find it helpful in preparing for the debate.

This link is to a flash presenation comparing the defense budget to other US federal gov't spending. The federal spending is represented by stacks of Oreo cookies and it graphically shows the imensity of the defense budget compared to other US federal government spending. A cartoon Ben Cohen (founder of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream) explains how the US could easily pay for head start programs, healh insurance etc by taking just a very small fraction of current defense spending and devoting it to spending on meeting social needs instead of war machinery, and it would still leave the US outspending by far all other countries with the remaining defense budget.

11. Hi, Ole Miss Dems Prez
Welcome to the DU!

That's awesome that you're getting information before your debate. I need to take off, otherwise I'd help you with all of your requests.

I was going to suggest the search function, but you probably can't use that yet. Here's what you should do:

Go to Yahoo. Go to the search bar. Key in your questions, like the 1st one: type in "Clinton speech at Boston convention, middle class" or something to that effect. You will probably get lots of hits. Once you get to the web site, go to 'Edit' at the top of your tool bar. Click it. Go to the bottom function, called 'Find (On this Page)...

You will now get a new dialog box which will search your web site. Key in "Middle class helped" or something like that.

I've found this is the fastest way to find stuff on the Internet. Otherwise, you spend H-O-U-R-S..... Good luck!

12. I don't think any Democrats voted in favor of H.R.4241...
I don't have any links but type in the number of the bill, along with 2005 and House vote and you should get some hits on that. There's a site called Thomas dot gov that usually will tell you about the actual handling of bills and everything that happened in Congress.

10. Did he turn a few of his wise ass phrases like
"That wouldn't be knowable in terms of the metrics on the ground", "They are like henny penny" and so on?

13. My favorite Rummy moment is still the "known knowns" speech.

That there are known knowns,
There are things we know that we know,
There are known unknowns,
That is to say there are things that we now know, we don't know
But there are also unknown unknowns,
There are things we do not know we don't know
And each year we discover a few more
Of those unknown unknowns.

"Well Helen I didn't know because nobody told me, so how could I know".
