Response to a 36 percenter . . .
I sent out an email detailing how the Bush Administration intentionally manipulate information, ie lies. One of the readers responded saying that it makes no difference in who is in office, that the reports are all manipulated anyway and they all lie. What follows is my response.

============

Not so. Comparisons are only valid if the source of the data is the same for both sides of the comparison. What the Bush Administration does is intentionally manipulate the sources of information and change definitions to achieve the desired outcome. It is the height of intellectual hypocrisy (Sheeesh, I can’t believe I used Bush and Intellectual in the same paragraph . . .) and the most artful form of lying.

They have done it with the economy, they’ve done it with employment, they’ve done it with the war, they’ve done it with drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, they’ve done it with just about everything you can think of.

Let’s take wetlands for instance. It was announced last week that for the first time since the EPA has kept records the acreage of wetlands has increased. Good news right? Not really because there are no new wetlands, they just changed the definition of wetlands to include mining pits (referred to as “desert wetlands” because nothing will live there), farm tanks and even water hazards on golf courses. At this rate the next rain will result in even more wetlands as the potholes in city streets fill up. The ironic part of this is that classifying mining pits as wetlands means they can’t be cleaned up!

So, no my friend, the two parties are not the same. It took 40 years of Democratic control of Congress for Jim Wright to lose his Speaker of the House position over an ethics violation and six for Newt Gingritch to lose his over the very same violation. Forty years to pin a book deal on Jim Wright and less than a dozen years to put Duke Cunningham in jail for taking $2.5 million in bribes. Less than a dozen years to indict Tom Delay on half a dozen charges. Less than a dozen years to convict Jack Abramoff of conspiracy and with him every Republican he touched. Less than a dozen years for Administration officials and appointees to be convicted of petty theft and pedophilia.

No, my friend, the two parties are not the same.

3. Sure Bush lies, but Clinton lied about sex & that's so sinful...
and affected so many lives unlike Bush's lies. :sarcasm: Bush & Company would make Goebbels proud. At least the Nazis made no bones about what they were up to since Goebbels title was Minister of Information & Propaganda.

"Propaganda is a means to an end. Its purpose is to lead the people to an understanding that will allow it to willingly and without internal resistance devote itself to the tasks and goals of a superior leadership. If propaganda is to succeed, it must know what it wants. It must keep a clear and firm goal in mind, and seek the appropriate means and methods to reach that goal. Propaganda as such is neither good nor evil. Its moral value is determined by the goals it seeks."
- Joesph Goebbels - 1934 Nuremburg Rally
