Why I want Rumsfeld to "resign".

1.) It will be an indictment against this entire FAILED Iraqi fiasco.
2.) We need to see some consequences for the people who are responsible for 2000+ lost American lives, and 10's of thousands, if not 100's of thousands of innocent Iraqi (civilian) lives. Rummy is about as high on that list of evildoers as one can get.
3.) While some say we'll get a new Defense Secretary who's just as bad,
I, personally, cannot imagine anyone worse. Maybe we could get somebody sane in there. It's a long shot, but what have we got to lose?

1. #1 is the

reason that Rummy won't resign, no matter how much pressure is applied. That would be it for the Iraq war, and as Iraq is Bush's historical legacy, that would be it for his Presidency. Rummy can't resign. I guess if he really has to go, an "accident" could be arranged??

On the other hand, if by some miracle, they manage to pull it off in Iraq, not all the ex post facto analysis in the world will be able to destroy Bush's legacy. History loves a winner and loathes a loser. Bush has to win, and he knows it. If Hitler had won, he would be known as a great liberator, or something like that, in the present time.

2. Can Congress force him out?

And, there's no way Iraq will ever be seen as a "victory". At best it's an endless quagmire.

The Mission was Accomplished...no more major combat operations....just little teeny tiny itsy bitsy kind of a war goin' on now.

Bad Ole Saddam is gone.

No more torture rooms...er well sorta.

No more mass killings of Iraqis....er well, sorta.

Peace spreading in the region....er, well, never mind about that.

Got all those horrid old WMDs.....er, well,...

Oh fuckit, just give him the medal of freedom let him "spend more time with his family"(tm).

I think it might also weaken the Bush Presidency as they ramp up plans to invade Iran.
