Protesters! We should play that 60s song "They're coming to take me...
...away, haha..." anytime we get anywhere near Bush - and play it really loud. Get the message across to Der Fuehrer that we think he's certifiably insane. It would be like the military psy ops, where they play loud music to get to the bad guys. In this case, we could play loud music with a message - Gorge, you're wacko insane, and the men in white coats are coming for you soon!

Wouldn't it be funny if the reporters at the White House press briefings started playing that song at every briefing? Can you think of any other circumstances where it might be appropriate? It could be Gorge's theme song for his pResidency!

1. Where life is beautiful ALL the time....!!
They could have another shot at banning the song then, like they did when it first came out.

reminiscently,
Bright

9. All the mainstream radio stations in the Mpls/St. Paul market...
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 05:03 PM by TygrBright
...banned that song from their playlists after the early 1960s equivalents of Focus on the Family, etc., claimed it was demoralizing to youth and encouraged rowdiness, irreverence for authority, etc., not to mention possibly making young people believe that they were crazy and that craziness could be used as an excuse to do terrible things like questioning authority, etc. Some of them piously added as an afterthought that it wasn't a very nice way to talk/sing about crazy people, either.

Of course, the banning only made it WILDLY popular among young people, and the "underground" radio stations played it to death.

nostalgically,
Bright

14. Stations all over the country banned that tune as too controversial
Making light of mental illness was not seen as fit subject for popular music, not even as a novelty song. Both NYC Top 40 stations at the time (WMCA and WABC) removed the song from airplay after numerous and quite vocal complaints from the mental health community. The protests and the banning were pretty much nationwide.

In the NYC market, I never heard any of the demoralizing, rowdiness, questioning authority arguments, just that it was tasteless and inappropriate, and hurtful to those suffering from mental illness.

2. The flip side was the song in reverse. We used to go into places
play it multiple times on the jukebox and then walk out.

6. My buddy, who is running for Congress, has a
Industrial strength bullhorn. He disrupted a couple of the chimps speeches in 2004. I know if we can get a tape of that. We'll play it for him endlessly.

Theyre Coming to Take Me Away (Napoleon the 14th)

Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees and begged you
Not to go because I'd go berserk?

WELL,

You left me anyhow and
Then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone completely
out of my mind,

AND

They're coming to take me away,
Haha, they're coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm
Where Life is Beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those Nice Young Men
In their Clean White Coats
And they're coming to take me AWAY,
HA HAAAAA

You thought it was a joke,
and so you LAUGHED, YOU LAUGHED
When I had said that losing you
Would make me flip my lid,

RIGHT?

You know you laughed.
I HEARD you laugh, you laughed
And laughed and laughed
And then you left,
And now you see I'm Utterly Mad

AND

They're coming to take me away,
Haha, they're coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the Happy Home with Trees and Flowers
And Chirping Birds and basket weavers
Who sit and smile and
Twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to Take me Away,
HAHAAAAAAAAA

I cooked your food,
I cleaned your house,
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind unselfish loving deeds

RIGHT?

Well, you just wait,
They'll get you yet,
And when they do, they'll put you in
the ASPCA, you mangy MUTT,

AND

(chorus 1)
(chorus 2)
(chorus 1 trailing into mumbles in the distance)

BR

17. On second thought passersby, especially repukes, may think
that is our new theme song unless we modify the lyrics.
