Drastic times call for drastic measures. Close down all the drive
throughs! Just think of all the gas that would be saved. People would just have to park and actually go in to the "restaurant" to eat. Pharmacies would be exempted. What do you think?

Traffic jams are major culprits but shift changes or mass transportation would have to go into place to help that! Closing drive throughs would be relatively easy. (I know the food industry would SCREAM!) This way, though, people might hang on to some money to actually buy food at restaurants, etc.

1. People would lose some freaking weight, too.
Myself included, for fairness.

4. How is that going to save gas?
The fuel used by cars idling at the drive-thru is minuscule and would probably be offset by driving around the parking lot.

5. Good idea, wrong cause
I suggested this to get MacDonalds to stop sponsoring the "Doctor Laura" TV show.

Something like this might be effective if targeted at one company for one cause.

Saving gasoline is not the right cause.

Farmworkers rights? Maybe.

To get MacDondalds to stop outsourcing the order-taking speakerphone to India? Maybe.

6. That Would Consume More Gas, Actually
Close down all the drive throughs! Just think of all the gas that would be saved. People would just have to park and actually go in to the "restaurant" to eat.

It wouldn't save any gas though. Park, go inside, eat, go back out again and the engine is cold now,
and getting it warmed up again will burn more gas than you would have used going through the drive-through.

7. Well, I learned something. Thanks for all who responded. I guess that
traffic jams are good for something then. I guess folks use less gas idling in a jam than speeding on down the highway. Thanks again for the info, I wouldn't have dreamed.

8. I Was Proceding Under The Assumption That You Won't Be Idling For Long
in the drive-through, while if you eat inside, you will be stopped long enough for the car to cool down.

I drive a hybrid anyway, so idling is a non-issue for me.

9. I see your point. Hey, if we all drove hybrids we wouldn't have
nearly as much to worry about. Good choice!
