80. Neil Young Seems To Agree-- Strongly
It should suprise no one who's been paying attention for the last few years that Bush is being widely seen as the worst catastrophe to have happened to our poor country since the Civil War. And he is certainlt the worst catstrophe to have happened to the world since Hitler. The ROLLING STONE article is an incredible read. Neil Young's new album is an incredible listening experience. Either way-- and dozens more-- sooner or later even people in the closed polygamous communities of Utah are going to get the message about Bush.

He is, bar none, the worst president in history, and it was utterly predictable from the moment that the SC installed him, that he would lay claim to this title.

18. agreed. most of the others that historian put as worse
buchanan, harding, grant, w. harrison, e.g., generally achieved their ignomious ranking through inaction, or through failing to rise to the occasion.

shrub, on the other hand, actively took us from a peaceful, prosperous, respected nation to a corrupted, despised, bankrupt, struggling, pointlessly belligerent nation.

llllllllllloser!

Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 08:58 AM by shrike
Harding, for example, spoke out against racism, established the VA AND the 40-hour work week.

Bush may go down in history as the only president without a single redeeming feature.

BTW, W.H. Harrison was only president for a month, don't think he really belongs in either category.

45. long-term alcohol abuse can deplete certain neurotransmitters
mostly seratonin, possibly dopamine as well, i think.

hence the massive doses of anti-depressants. in the case of zoloft, a seratonin reuptake inhibitor, which amplifies the tiny amount of seratonin left in his tiny little brain.

83. Wow! I found a dailykos link referencing it making him impotent.
Also, weird stuff on Rummy:

Donald Rumsfeld needs to wear iced underwear because of some medical condition, and he has his secret service detail hold his spares. He was recently getting uncontrollable long-term erections and had to change up his medical treatments. The underwear and the erections is why he uses a standing desk, not because he is some super-man. He also wears nylon stockings, not because he's gay, but to control some vascular problem with his legs which causes him intense pain.

President Bush uses anti-depressant medication, a lot of it, at a stupendous dosage, and he is hiding it from the American public. This is the real reason he stopped drinking. Because of the dosage, he is also impotent.

14. People can say anything they want about Clinton...
...but was there ever a major magazine cover like this about him? Did anyone ever really question whether or not the president with 60% + approval ratings during a booming economy could be considered "the worst president in history?"

38. I think your means of comparing Presidents is not valid or useful...
Whether or not there is a magazine cover proclaiming any particular president 'worst ever' - reflects only typical American concerns about our well-being. "Good economy" means most of us are comfortable and doing well.

I want a higher standard: How are we doing as a decent citizen nation in our world? All recent Presidents - GHWB, WJC, GWB - have all contributed to the American Holocaust:

In 15 Years (1991-2006), the US has caused/contributed to 1,000,000 Iraqi deaths

Persian Gulf War: 150,000
Gulf War Aftermath: Many thousands
UN Sanctions: Primary cause of 600,000 deaths
Iraq War: 250,000

...according to the current issue (#998, April 20th), the anti-war song "World Wide Suicide" was downloaded 250,000 times in five days when the band posted it for free.

The album is out May 2nd. No link for my post...I copied this info from the print edition.

...but for now, I'm more than happy to have one of my heroes on it (Neil Young).

He's taken a lot of crap for endorsing the Patriot Act...as recently as yesterday, right here on DU.

My attitude is "What's he doing right NOW?"

Answer: He's speaking out against the War In Iraq and Bush.

I can live with that.

And just IMAGINE what they will find about this incompetent idiot's administration in a few years when he's out of office and more tongues wag and more documents are leaked. It's worse than we can even imagine.

It's like critical mass, baby. If the whole town is calling you a skank, your days of virginhood are over. There is no re-virgining this admin-it's never going to happen. Tony "Moonie Times" Blankely had a fit on the McGloughlin Group when Eleanor Clift dared to say that some where a little concerned Bush is acting "like a madman" over Iran. "ARE you saying our president is a MADMAN?" he shouts, offended to his neo-con black heart. Uh..yeah.

26. Obligatory "Dr. Hook" reference here
The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show
(Shel Silverstein)

(Hey Ray, hey sugar, tell them who we are)

Well, we're big rock singers, we got golden fingers and we're loved everywhere we go (That sounds like us)
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth at ten thousand dollars a show (Right)
We take all kinds of pills, that give us all kind of thrills but the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yeah!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover of The Rolling Stone

(That's a very very good idea)

I got a freaky old lady name o' Cocaine Kitty who embroiders on my jeans
I got my poor ol' grey haired daddy, drivin' my limousine
Now it's all designed to blow our minds but our minds won't really be blown
Like the blow that'll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (Yeah!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover of The Rolling Stone

(Hey, I know how...)
(ROCK AND ROLL!)

(Aww, dats beautiful)

We got a lot of little teenage blue eyed groupies who'll do anything we say
We got a genuine Indian guru, who's teachin' us a better way
We got all the friends, that money can buy, so we'll never have to be alone
And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture on the cover of The Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother (I want one!)
Wanna see my smilin' face, on the cover The Rolling Stone

On the cover of the
Rolling Stone, wanna see my picture on the cover (I don't know why we ain't on the cover, baby)
Gonna buy five copies for my mother (We're beautiful fellows)
Wanna see my smiling face (I ain't kidding ya)
On the cover of The Rolling Stone (Ah, we would make a beautiful cover)

(The first shot, right up front man, I can see it now)
(We would be on the front smilin' man)
(Aahhhhh beautiful)

60. OMG -- It's by Sean Wilentz!
I remember him from the Clinton impeachment hearings telling the house managers:
"If you believe (the charges) rise to (the level of impeachment), you will vote for impeachment and take your risks at going down in history with the zealots and the fanatics.

If you understand that the charges do not rise to the level of impeachment, or if you are at all unsure, and yet you vote in favor of impeachment anyway for some other reason, history will track you down and condemn you for your cravenness."
Had his pic thumbtacked in my office for years.

61. Meanwhile, the teaser "Confessions of Nick Lachey" on a nominal rock mag
again signals the mainstream acceptance of disposable culture and serves as a potent reminder of why Bush ever became president in the first place.

65. ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONES
WELL WE'RE BIG ROCK SINGERS
WE GOT GOLDEN FINGERS
AND WE'RE LOVED EVERYWHERE WE GO

WE SING ABOUT BEAUTY
AND WE SING ABOUT TRUTH
AT TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A SHOW

WE TAKE ALL KINDS OF PILLS
TO GIVE US ALL KINDS OF THRILLS
BUT THE THRILL WE'VE NEVER KNOWN

IS THE THRILL THAT WILL GET YOU
WHEN YOU GET YOUR PICTURE
ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONE

chorus;
GOING TO SEE MY PICTURE ON THE COVER
GONNA BUY FIVE COPIES FOR MY MOTHER
GONNA SEE MY SMILING FACE
ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONE

I GOT A FREAKY OLD LADY
NAME A COCAINE KATY
WHO EMBROIDERS ON MY JEANS
I GOT MY POOR OLD GRAY HAIR DADDY
DRIVING MY LIMOUSINE

NOW LETS ALL DECIDE
TO BLOW OUR MINDS
BUT OUR MINDS WON'T REALLY BE BLOWN

LIKE THE BLOW THAT WILL GET'CHA
WHEN YOU GET YOUR PICTURE
ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONES

chorus

WE GOT ALLOT OF LITTLE
TEEN AGE BLUE EYED GROUPIES
WHO'D DO ANYTHING WE'D SAY

WE GOT A GENUINE INDIAN GURU
HE'S TEACHING US A BETTER WAY
WE GOT ALL THE FRIENDS THAT MONEY CAN BUY
SO WE NEVER HAVE TO BE ALONE

AND WE KEEP GETTING RICHER
BUT WE CAN'T GET OUR PICTURE ON THE COVER OF THE ROLLING STONES

chorus

66. Random memory:
My parents had that album when I was a kid and there was a song called "GetMy Rocks Off." I never understood why someone would do something with rocks and roll them down a hill and then sing about it. I also never understood why my Dad would get a funny look on his face when my sister and I would innocently sing along with the chorus.

"Get My Rocks Off"
Some men need some killer weed, some men need cocaine
Some men need some cactus juice, to purify the brain
Some men need two women, some need alcohol
Everybody needs a little something, but Lord I need it all
To get my rocks off, get my rocks off
Get my rocks off the mountain, and roll 'em on down the hill
I may do you one time, and I may do you more
I may turn you into something, that you ain't ready for
I might want your body, and I might want your bread
I might want your momma to come visit me instead
And get my rocks off, get my rocks off
Get my rocks off the mountain, and roll 'em on down the hill
Sometimes I dream of chicks, to bring me ever lasting joys
Sometimes I dream of animals, sometimes I dream of boys
Sometimes I kill the living, sometimes I raise the dead
Sometimes I say just screw it all, and crawl back into bed
And get my rocks off, get my rocks off
Get my rocks off the mountain, and roll 'em on down the hill

74. More weird "Sloppy Seconds" lyrics -
Freaker's Ball -

C'mon babies, grease your lips
Grab your hats and swing your hips
Don't forget to bring your whips
We're goin' to the Freaker's Ball

Blow your whistle, bang your gong
Roll up somethin' to take along
Feels so good it must be wrong
Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball

All the fags and dykes, they're boogyin' together
Leather freaks are dressed in all kinds of leather
The greatest of the Sadists and the Masochists, too
Screamin' 'Please hit me' and 'I'll hit you'

FBI dancin' with the junkies
All the Straights swingin' with the Funkies
'Cross the floor and up the wall
Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball

Everybody is lovin' each other
Brother with sister...son with mother
Smear my body up with butter
And take me to the Freaker's Ball

So pass that roach please and pour the wine...
I'll kiss yours if you'll kiss mine
I'm gonna boogie til I go blind...
Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball

Black ones, white ones, yellow and red ones...
Necropheliacs lookin' for dead ones
The greatest of the Sadists and the Masochists, too...
Screaming 'Please hit me' and 'I'll hit you'

Everybody ballin' in batches...
Pyromaniacs strikin' matches
I'm gonna itch me where it scratches...
Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball, y'all
Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball

The guy that wrote The Giving Tree wrote THIS?

84. Ha! That's right. I remember that as well.
Again, I didn't know what the hell he was singing about, but I do remember singing that part "Grease mah boh-dee up with buttah!" 'cuz it sounded like fun. Wow. What an album.

As I recall, it also had "Sylvia's Mother" on it.

I disagree with the question mark. It should be an exclamation point, followed by another exclamation point.

What a monumental dickhead. It will be hard for the goppers to top him in years to come but that won't stop them from trying.
