Rumsfeld Not Considering Resigning

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

''The current secretary of defense is dismissive, contemptuous and arrogant,'' retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste said Tuesday in an e-mail exchange about Rumsfeld. ''Many of us have worked for far tougher and more aggressive men, but those leaders understood leadership, the value of teamwork and that respect is a two-way street.''

Asked whether he would consider resigning to ease political pressure on Bush and Republicans in Congress, Rumsfeld said, ''No.''

''The president knows, as I know, there are no indispensable men.... He knows that I serve at his pleasure, and that's that,'' Rumsfeld said.

1. I'm thinking if many more ex military come out in public against him,
he will have no choice but to quit. Believe it or not, Rummy is still human (I think), and even HIS ego can be shattered if the right group of people are totally against him.

If he doesn't quit, Shrub will suffer the consequences, as well as the Party. I suspect the Party isn't willing to let that happen if they can help it.

3. Has anyone seen any comments
by McCain on the Dumsfeld issue? Is he just flying beneath the radar on this?

5. I did see something yesterday that McCain said he has lost confidence in
Rummy, and that he said it over a year ago, and still feels the same way.

2. "serve at his pleasure"
My, isn't that a term from days gone by? It was used to describe servants of a King or Queen.

In fact, there still is a legal term in the UK that allows a prisoner to be held "at Her Majesty's pleasure", meaning until they die, basically.

6. He has to keep coming up with phrases like that
-- and has to pretend that he offered his resignation twice -- because he runs the entire show.

Rumsfeld decides who comes and who goes. Rumsfeld is behind all of this.

7. But Cheney runs the REAL show
Nothing goes on without the all-important nod from Crashcart.

Call me crazy, but I believe Rumsfeld when he said he wanted to go... This craziness in the WH is even getting to Rumsferatu.

4. Rumsfeld spouts absolute nonsensical BS and the press corps
never calls him on it. The man spends every waking hour speaking in gibberish, obfuscation and denial. Rummy has NEVER accepted responsibility for anything his entire life. Even when he allegedly offered his resignation after the torture scandal, he was denying ANY knowledge. He is a liar.
