3. they are speaking a lot about ted turner
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 11:07 PM by faithnotgreed
clearly dave really enjoys him

dave asked her about how they "met"
so jane recalls how ted called her up the day her divorce was announced to ask if she wanted to go out
she said she was having a nervous breakdown so she wasnt in any position to go out
and ted replied he knew just how she felt because he had just broken up with his mistress - the one he left his wife of 24 years for
and jane thought "is this man crazy?"

and on the stories go

going to commercial but dave still wants to talk of her and ted and their first date when they come back from the break

i only tuned in because the op said jane was on
i so rarely watch tv

2. Not near a tv sometimes. I hope it's a good interview.
Letterman is pretty good with controversies and Fonda is a favorite from eons ago.

4. hi old crusoe - our friend jane is on
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 11:15 PM by faithnotgreed
dave asked her about her travels given her book was translated in 15 languages

now she is pointing out that she loves that in europe "people own their ages" and dont have their faces all changed through surgery as they do here in america

dave is asking her now about katherine hepburn
and jane is telling stories about on golden pond (everything thats in the book)

dave is asking her what else she is doing with her time
jane says she is going to interdenominational theology school in atlanta that african american pastors attend

she is also talking about fly fishing which she picked up from ted
and she also said she is starting a movie in june - she didnt say what it was but i hope it does really well

thats about all of it
ended with another plug for her autobiography now in paperback

good for dave
it was just a couple friends talking basically

7. And hi to you, too, faithnotgreed. How nice of you to send along
a synopsis like that. For me it was a lift to get because I'm not always next to a television set.

It sounds as if the interview went smoothly and maybe I will have a chance to catch it on a rerun sometime.

Jane Fonda has lived several full lives, hasn't she. What a woman, what an accomplished person she is.

Warm thanks for those extra steps, faithnotgreed. Much appreciated.

:hi:

9. very much my pleasure - now im watching the larry king rerun
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 11:50 PM by faithnotgreed
since she was on the whole hour

she is such a gift
now shes talking about "owning her face" and how she had her breast implants removed at 45 yo

and an amazing piece of trivia
when she won the oscar for "coming home" she gave her acceptance speech in sign language
she said she had found out that there were 17 million deaf people in america and so she lobbied the academy to use close caption and they wouldnt
so she signed her acceptance speech

if people would actually listen to her or read her they would absolutely love her

on edit: i want to give larry king a lot of credit
he calls her "one of our favorite people" and is very respectful of her

now she is speaking of learning when her mother committed suicide
she said you always blame yourself as a child when this happens (her mother had severe bi polar)
jane learned of her mothers suicide when passing by a tabloid paper that reported she had slit her throat

12. I knew some of what you're saying she talked about on Larry King,
but not all of it.

(Thanks again!)

What you said about Larry King and how he treats her... I've seen that in him before. He's often derided for not being the hard-hitter type of political reporter, but his early radio days were mostly intelligent entertainment. He's a Democrat, though, and a generous contributor to our party.

And the way he treats Jane Fonda helps round the edges of the old grudge some still hold against her.

I agree with you on Ms. Fonda all the way. She's the real deal.

14. i really dont watch much tv but given kings more recent
shows (and those guests he has on and those he doesnt) then i cant help but be surprised that he would be so good to her
guess i was just assuming... and we know thats not a good idea~~

but he definitely has changed from his early democratic days
not saying he isnt a democrat - i really cant know that - but just commenting on the definite change from more progressive that he was to being now part of the corporate media

the fawning and softball questions to the political guests is disappointing but tonight i give him his due
he clearly respected her and her father
and since he is old friends with ted turner that made a difference too
i very much enjoyed watching his interview with her and wish they could have had another hour

13. God, what you said about "if people would actually listen to her"
is so very, very true. She knows what the hell she is talking about, but rather than listen, they prefer to spit in her face and yell at her. I could listen to her all day cause she makes so much damn sense and she has stored up so much knowledge - much more than the dimson could ever hope to know. I think she's a national treasure and thinks more about the troops than our fearless leader.

15. i would also listen to her for hours
that hour with larry king was wonderful and wish that particular show was much longer

she just is so amazingly sane and articulate and talented and
human

just a beautiful human being
im so glad she feels in good health

and yes as you say
she loves the men and women who serve in the military - and thats exactly why she supports iraq veterans against the war and why she chooses to lay low in personally speaking out against the war but supports the effort very much

8. Thank you, Now,I see her in a new light,
All the lies they told. There are still people who believe the lies. John kerry was a hero.Jane Fonda made a mistake sitting on the tank, but was a hero none the less, because she cared about the troops. No one disrespected troops comming from Viet Nam. I lived through that war. I lost a cousin.I thanked everyone who served and didn't blame anyone who didn't. See this trailer for Sir! No Sir!.:thumbsup: In the 1960’s an anti-war movement emerged that altered the course of history. This movement didn’t take place on college campuses, but in barracks and on aircraft carriers. It flourished in army stockades, navy brigs and in the dingy towns that surround military bases. It penetrated elite military colleges like West Point. And it spread throughout the battlefields of Vietnam. It was a movement no one expected, least of all those in it. Hundreds went to prison and thousands into exile. And by 1971 it had, in the words of one colonel, infested the entire armed services. Yet today few people know about the GI movement against the war in Vietnam.

The Vietnam War has been the subject of hundreds of films, both fiction and non-fiction, but this story–the story of the rebellion of thousands of American soldiers against the war–has never been told in film.

Yet few today know of these history-changing events.Sir! No Sir! reveals how, thirty years later, the poem by Bertolt Brecht that became an anthem of the GI Movement still resonates:

General, man is very useful.
He can fly and he can kill.
But he has one defect: He can think.

10. I saw the movie last night and she spoke afterwards
She is featured in the film and she was there last night for the benefit for Iraq Veterans Against the War. She looks fabulous! It was very enlightening to see the work she was actually doing during that time, versus the RW mythology. The film is brilliant. A must-see. I posted earlier:
