Ashcroft speech, no sell-out. Not even near it. Vancouver.
This was the fourth annual Public Affairs Distinguished Lecture series.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/18/AR2006041801748.html

Washington State University Vancouver folks were puzzled last week when only 100 people bought advance tickets for former attorney general John D. Ashcroft 's speech on national security and civil liberties.

After all, last year's speaker, newly named Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean , sold out the 1,100 seats before the event.

"We did an all-out blitz" to gin up interest among local Republican Party folks and others, Long said. In the end, about 700 showed. Of those, 225 paid the full $10, 400 students were comped and 75 were VIPs. Several rows in the back were roped off to make the room appear smaller. (I wonder if they meant $100 instead of $10?)

A couple of dozen protesters were outside and one inside as Ashcroft gave an address described by news accounts as an interesting speech."

3. *rotfl* ~ that's funny, JeffR! I remember when I saw Ashcroft in FH9/11
singing 'let the eagle soar' for the first time, I couldn't believe it. I laughed so hard, because before that, I thought people were joking when they talked about him singing ~

I'd like to ask him why he refused to sign off on Bush's domestic spying program! Other than that, I would be afraid to be in the same room with him. Although, Bush outdid himself with the new, torture AG. Ashcroft looks good compared to Gonzalez.

4. True! Who ever thought anyone, esp. on the left, would miss him?
I think I'll see if I can find his songs on LimeWire.

7. Guess nobody wanted to
hear any more about that "sore eeeaggle" again. An indictment of the US, I suppose.
