GOP Spanish Language Ads Blame Dems for Bill to make aliens into felons
Here's an excerpt from an AP article distributed this morning. Have they no shame? The GOP members in the House pass a bill making it a felony to be an undocumented resident in the US and then try to blame the Dems for their action.

"... Republicans disclosed a Spanish-language radio advertising campaign designed to shoulder Democrats with the responsibility for legislation passed by the GOP-controlled House that would make illegal immigrants subject to felony charges.

The ads are scheduled to air in New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada — states with large Latino populations. ... In the House, Republicans drafted legislation to make illegal immigrants subject to felony charges. Democrats say they were denied a chance to eliminate criminal penalties from the bill.

At another point, Republicans tried to substitute misdemeanor charges for felonies in the bill. Democrats opposed that effort, with at least some of them saying they wanted no criminal penalties at all. Republicans then passed the overall bill — including felony charges — on a largely party-line vote."

1. Simply counter with "Republicans are playing you for fools...again"

Copy in ads should read something like, "Republicans think Spanish speaking people are stupid. They try to tell you white is black, up is down."

It's a crying shame that most of our Dems can't find a line to run with or a way to defend themselves. I'm willing this stunt will peel off quite a few hispanic voters because the Dems will not come out and defend themselves against this with any real vigor.

2. This Is Backfiring...They Should Do More

Repugnicans somehow think that since Hispanics speak Spanish they don't understand English or can follow the news. The audacity of attempting to tar Democrats with the Sennsenbrenner fiasco is either amazing on its level of chutzpah or shows a Repugnican party that is completely ignorant about the Hispanic communities in this country (unless their rich Cubans) or a combination of the two.

Hopefully Mehlmann and his slimers will keep pissing off these people so that in 2008, the Hispanic Repugnican vote will equal the Black Repugnican vote. Keep up the good work!
