A caller to C-SPAN says her children and grandchildren would be fighting..
...this war on terror. That it was the greatest threat that our country has ever faced. And she said it with such enthusiasm - as if the next two generations are going to be a lot of fun.

Why do some people think this is the "greatest threat" ever and some think it was only a diversion from capturing the real "terrorists" in Afghanistan and Pakistan? Does this new war mean we have to invade or attack every country in the Middle East? Do you think this lady is in the majority and that we will be fighting this "war" for the rest of our lives? It seems to be growing into the conventional wisdom and would make it difficult for a Democrat to disagree with the premise...

for I believe it is, after the Neo-Con danger to the world, and also exacerbated by the Neo-Cons, the biggest threat to the world in modern times.

Radical Islam.

Terrorism.

edit: oh, and I don't think making endless war in the Middle East will help....:eyes:

3. If we are engaged in Afghanistan and Iraq for any length
of time, it is because George Bush is an utter failure as a Commander in Chief. He mismanaged 9/11, he mismanaged Afghanistan and he's led us into a quagmire in Iraq. He's made us less safe and he's a miserable failure.

8. are people who are not focused
accepting pre emptive war as the new policy if they are they are sick. War is definitely not the answer, diplomancy is. Apparently, there was a time when we attack someone if they posed a risk to us, now, we are out to bully other nations because of their ideas do not mesh with ours. This is just sick.

14. Rove et al have exploited that part of our national character
that we call "hot dogging" or "being a cowboy". Just as they stoke various kinds of discrimination, they also encourage wanton aggressiveness "over there". It's really part of the same Republican racist ethic, which may be why it works so well on their base.

It is sick.

But, I was thinking in my post above that being in a long war can be flipped to frame Bush's incompetence very easily. So, those people that really are afraid (and who really do believe we need to fight a war on an abstract noun) can be talked to in terms of what Bush has delivered. Saying you're a war president and being a good commander aren't the same thing. . .

11. I dunno
I think he pulled off 9/11 pretty skilfully.

Well, OK, so it was mostly Cheney and the Saudis...but still: credit where evil credit is due. It really got the U.S. population worked up, just like they intended.

And he's doing a heckuva job making his oil buddies even richer, and destroying the middle class. He's pretty much the best anti-Christ we have at the moment....

15. Maybe but from Gramma's viewpoint, he's taking a lot of credit
for "protecting" us when he should get none.

If 9/11 happened on Clinton's watch, they would have hung him.

17. yeah, but Clinton never would have perpetrated something like 9/11
whereas Bush did. Bush is much better at being an evil, murderous dictator who couldn't give two shits about the citizens of his own country. Maybe this woman is an admirer of Hitler, too...

"Protecting" us? I guess there really are people who still believe that...I sort of wish I could have heard this caller, she sounds like a maniac.
