Shouldn't there just be a three-year moratorim on immigration until
we get things sorted out with our laws, our corporations, and our borders?

I mean, a report today said that the USA reported its largest decline in annual deaths. So people aren't dying like they used to, we are rapidly depleting our natural resources, highways are crowded, wages are being depressed, the gap between the rich and poor is widening.... Shouldn't we just give ourselves a break here and try to get our nation on the right track before letting more immigrants in? Just a question that comes to mind in trying to deal with a growing problem.

1. Yes, yes, yes......
Bushco is just using the immigration reform stuff to get into Pemex (nationally-owned oil company of Mexico) so the Mexican legislature will open Pemex to foreign development. Mexico wants the "guest worker program" which is the equivalent of an open border because about 10 billion dollars is sent south every year by Mexican workers. That's a MAJOR factor in the Mexican economy.

We haven't yet been hit with the economic results of all the crap bush has caused, war, tax cuts for the rich, etc.

We simply can't afford to put extra pressure on the economy right now.
And certainly not on behalf of Halliburton and Exxon.

5. I think you're right about that, PW
Most of our foreign policy over the past 100 years comes down to oil.

2. The immigrants who are coming
illegally probably won't care if we have a moratoreum or not. They'll just come anyway.

6. Not if we couple strict enforcement against employers along with
the moratorium.

4. NO!
Would you have spouses living apart for 3 years? What about children and their parents? What about assylum seakers? Why punish those that come to the States legally for others that will still continue to come illegally?

7. Well, this seems to be the lesser of the evils out there. Some families
are separated now more than three years. Some sacrifice must be made for the greater good. I think the poster has a great idea and I wish Congress would think about it.

9. And this stops illegal immigration how?
It's a stupid idea IMHO. It won't do a single thing to stem illegal immigration and in fact will only encourage it because it would cause those who would have otherwise immigrated legally to try it thru the backdoor.
