Lawmaker Puzzled by Obscenity in Letter By SAM HANANEL, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Nobody expects to get a letter from a member of Congress that ends with an expletive. But that's what happened when Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (news, bio, voting record), R-Mo., recently corresponded with a resident of her southeast Missouri district.

The letter ended with a profane, seven-letter insult beginning with the letter a — "i think you're an. ..."

Emerson says she can't explain how the offensive language made it into the letter, which otherwise reads like a typical response to a citizen's question about last year's testimony of oil executives before the Senate Commerce Committee.

1. Yep. I bet they have no idea how "asshole" got into the letter.

Just like they have no idea that there really were no WMDs or that Diebold strangely counts votes for shrub that weren't there. Hummmmm..... gee, I wonder.

4. Having been a secretary for a long, long time -

I'm well versed in taking oral dictation as well as using a dictaphone. I've changed words in letters for bosses on many, many an occasion (usually stuff like asshole, jerk, truly a fucking idiot, etc.) to something almost as strong but not considered profanity.

That said, sounds to me like a really good, stealth Dem secretary is working for the Representative.........
