KBR Awarded Homeland Security contract worth up to $385M. (HAL) (By Katherine Hunt)

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co, (HAL), said Tuesday it has been awarded a contingency contract from the Department of Homeland Security to supports its Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in the event of an emergency. The maximum total value of the contract is $385 million and consists of a 1-year base period with four 1-year options. KBR held the previous ICE contract from 2000 through 2005. The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said. The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, the company said.

If no one has ever heard anything about detention or concentration camps within the United States, the above press release would appear relatively harmless. However, if anyone is waiting for the government and KBR to come out and say "Hey, we're building concentration camps for all you minions," before they will take note, you'll be in those camps 'before' you figure it out.

Several items about this concern me greatly. First, instead of paying $385+ million for the next five years to build detention centers or so they say; why not stop the flow at the borders which would be much cheaper? On the other hand, if the illegals are the real problem and reason for building detention centers; why not cancel all jobs for illegals, stop all government payments to illegals and their off-spring and watch the illegal problem dry up like a drought stricken river. You won't have to send them back, they will leave. But that would mean that the illegals are the real problem being addressed, could there are other reasons for these little mini Gitmos?...

Secondly, what are these other detention center type projects? Maybe they learned something in New Orleans, maybe they learned that they needed detention camps in which to send people that lost their homes during this natural disaster. By having Haliburton (Man, why does Hallibuton get all the plush assignments) build local camps, we can herd the mindless little masses into them whenever a natural disaster or even potential disaster occurs. Not to mention NWO orchestrated disasters.

Now I'm sure that many will say, not to worry, no big deal or your just making a mountain out of molehill. Maybe I am, however I believe our country has survived quite well without detention or concentration camps for the past 200 years. Just not sure why King George feels we need them now? Wasn't there another country that built and operated a few concentration camps about 60 years ago? I wonder what little piece of propaganda Hitler used to convince the little minions to look the other way?

Color me naive, but when I hear talk of cages, detention and/or concentration camps, my mind usually wonders in devious directions. I haven't seen anywhere in history where detention centers and so forth were used as freedom enhancing tools. View this anyway you wish, but do so at your own peril. Consider yourself warned, what you choose to do with this information is only up to you.

He puts in some comedy and some fluff in between the truth to make it more palatable for some people. Sorry he's not enough of a purist for some people who only want hard, straight news. As for me, I appreciate the mix--and even if I didn't, I'd endure it to get the truth he deals.

Two questions: What is an "immigration emergency," and how are these to be used as a reaction "to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster"? Does this mean that Katrina evacuees for example would have been stuck in these pens?

Which is precisely why it's so scary. THEY decide what an "immigration emergency" is. THEY decide what a "national emergency" is. Just like THEY decided who needed detaining at Gitmo. And glory be, Halliburton pockets the profits!

"Does this mean that Katrina evacuees for example would have been stuck in these pens?"

I believe the answer is a resounding "yes!". Many of us watched in horror bush*s response to NOLA drowning and thought that they were making a "practice run". They wouldn't let anyone in to help, they wouldn't let anyone leave. Even though a Navy ship that had the capacity to make thousands of gallons of potable water everyday had followed the storm to shore for the express purpose of giving aid if needed, the bush* administration refused to give lifesaving water & medicine to the 10's of thousands suffering in NOLA.

Every bit of their response to the crisis seemed centered on law & order, how they could secure & control a major American city and it's inhabitants rather than rescue/assist. When they did take the survivors out of the city it sent shivers down my spine. As glad as I was that the people were going to get out of there, the visual of of heavily armed military vehicles escorting the long caravans of buses used to remove the people was down right creepy.

38. Seems kind of paranoid to me.
Yes, if everything they say in that video is true, it's rather curious, but the large majority of what they say is basically just speculation, suggestion, hints of paranoia, and outright fabrications--such as describing a radio antenna tower as "an excellent watchtower." Generally, you need more than one watchtower, and it helps if it's not located at one end of the facility. Or oh-so-subtly implying that new furnaces = disposal of bodies, without mentioning any of the other parts that you would need to do something like that, or for that matter the fact that modern heating furnaces could never be used to dispose of corpses.

Stripped of the bias, it looks to me like a fairly simple case of an unused facility that's used as a convenient excuse for pouring federal money into the state's economy. If it were really some nefarious extermination camp the way they imply, do you think they would be allowed to wander around filming?

43. Well...
Two points on that.

One, we don't really know who took the footage. Its source is listed as anonymous, so it could be someone with security clearance and a conscience walking around with a very small, concealed camera.

Secondly, it wasn't so much the furnaces that initially raised my hackles. It was the fencing with the barbed wire facing inward. Whatever your views on the immigration issues in the US, the millions of Latinos who just protested throughout the US did so peacefully, proving they are not a mass security threat. The people that were living in filth for a week at the Superdome after Katrina were by and large peaceful (except for a very few, a minority of the hundreds of thousands there living in such a stressful situation), so again, evacuees are not a mass security threat. There should be no need for large, barbed wire holding areas for the US immigration and FEMA.

33. I just heard tonight on CNN...
...that "hundreds" of "illegal aliens" were rounded up today--as part of a large crackdown.

I am so sorry I wasn't paying closer attention. I was trying to get my two kids to bed, but I know I did hear this. I also heard that they arrested the owners of the businesses who employed these illegals.

When I heard this story...I wondered where they were taking all of these people.

It's not coincidence that rightwinghate radio is taking on the issue of immigration right now. They're simultaneously igniting disdain for Hispanics. They are attempting to demonize Hispanics--not immigrants--Hispanics.

I fear for the future.

They are using Hitleresque, organized, harsh propaganda techniques on Americans, in an effort to make people HATE Hispanics. It is sickening. They are being positioned as criminals, job stealers, drug dealers. Last week, in Iowa--a conservative radio host was blaming "illegals" for the mumps outbreak in our state.

This is incredibly serious....very, very grave.

Executives, workers arrested in nationwide move against pallet maker

Updated: 7:40 p.m. ET April 19, 2006
WASHINGTON - Immigration agents arrested seven executives and hundreds of employees of a manufacturer of crates and pallets Wednesday as part of a crackdown on employers of illegal workers.

Authorities raided offices and plants of IFCO Systems in at least eight states, the culmination of a yearlong criminal investigation, law enforcement officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested seven current and former IFCO Systems managers on charges they conspired to transport, harbor and encourage illegal workers to reside in the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain, said Glenn T. Suddaby, the chief federal prosecutor in Albany, N.Y., where some arrests were made.

<snip>

Raids across the U.S.
Raids took place at several locations in upstate New York and in Biglerville, Pa.; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati, Houston, Phoenix, Richmond, Va., and Westborough, Mass.

"ICE has no tolerance for corporate officers who harbor illegal aliens for their work force. Today's nationwide enforcement actions show how we will use all our investigative tools to bring these individuals to justice, no matter how large or small their company," said ICE chief Julie Myers.

The current administration has taken a lot of money from companies that not only employ illegals but are involved in trafficking. Now they want to detain them?

They are using the illegals as a smokescreen. The company that was raided earlier, I don't believe was a Bush contributor, at least from what I could find.

Read the last part of this statement from KBR. "to support the rapid development of new programs"

This is about Martial Law.

The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said.
