Savage advocated "killing 100 million" Muslims
On April 17, nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage called for "kill 100 million" Muslims and referred to the woman who alleged she was raped by members of Duke University's lacrosse team as a "drunken slut stripping whore."

On his radio show, Savage told listeners that "intelligent people, wealthy people ... are very depressed by the weakness that America is showing to these psychotics in the Muslim world. They say, 'Oh, there's a billion of them.' " Savage continued: "I said, 'So, kill 100 million of them, then there'd be 900 million of them.' I mean ... would you rather us die than them?" Savage added: "Would you rather we disappear or we die? Or would you rather they disappear and they die? Because you're going to have to make that choice sooner rather than later."

Savage also referred to the alleged Duke rape victim as "a drunken slut stripping whore accusing men of raping her when there is absolutely no evidence of such a rape other than what comes out of that filthy mouth of hers." He later asked: "What kind of system do we have that anyone can scream rape and not have to show her face?" adding, "This is all the product of the out-of-control lesbian feminist movement." Echoing previous comments he has made about the alleged rape victim, Savage said, "The Durham dirt-bag case disgusts me to my core."

My reaction to seeing it was very visceral - like hearing someone make a bigoted remark. It is difficult to process the idea that my friend even paid money and spent time to read his book.

85. attention monger is right
Ive heard his routine before. He purposely says outrageous things. But his show will never become popular, not because of the outrage, but because it is so boring. All he does is do stream of consciousness, giving his thoughts on anything and everything. The one or two times Ive been unfortunate enough to listen to him, my overwhelming response has been 'Who cares what you think?!"

3. I didn't realize Savage was a supporter of Muslim terrorists
He just gave them a wonderful recruiting tool, for the ONLY legitamate reason for going to war, according to the Qur'an, is if you are not allowed to practice Islam. Now killing off a tenth of all Muslims would seem to me to be a deterrant to practicing one's faith. Frankly, I think the Taliban and the Talibornagains are in cahoots to have one gigantic war.

That's how he stays out of trouble.

Of course if he were a Muslim calling for the killing of 100 million Americans, somehow I don't think the Bush Administration would give a shit about the first amendment.

then again, I don't know of any Muslim in America who'd broadcast something as stupidly irresponsible as what Savage Weener says on any given night.

19. Clear Channel etc. and sponsors
despite disclaimers, this type of hate talk put on the air and a source of advertising means you may apply the same standards to the sponsor, their products and the radio companies and channels. Because if they want to allow these beasts to cross those lines then their is no free speech or objectivity, no disclaimer possible. They put a voice on the air, fund and protect him(that goes for the word prudish, content void, FCC joke too) that makes war on humanity and its very soul then humanity can wage war against the whole rotten filthy network and all its dirty political money support.

Whatever degenerates still remain as this troll's sponsors should again be put on notice and their identity made as infamous as their showman's little tirades.

How would they like to hear a medley of Savage's "best" aired on TV juxtaposed with their products and smiling images of the company owners? I bet they would be a little uncomfortable and no comment need be added. Fascist propaganda Clear Channel and others are of course rabid lost causes. So let them lose all their revenue along with their souls.

And the sad mandate of the FCC to guard against a baker's dozen of dirty words and certain body parts is just something to scorn and that too as a partisan tool that should be juxtaposed on TV- without comment even necessary.

are the most effective. The local sponsors of local radio stations that have this guy in their package- probably by force or contract- should be surprised and apprised of the fact that as far as local consumers are concerned, any association of mutual profit must be one of guilt and a tar baby of PR nightmare proportions.

Chip away and make the locals accountable for the voice of their masters and let the money flee them until only a few odd national sponsors are left.

You pay to get on a station that attracts listeners disposed to buy. if their minds are poisoned with lies what does that probably say about your product and your attitude toward the public? If there is a line they hide behind it has been crossed by obscene hatred for political purposes and is an assault on the public they want to buy their products. of course they may be lines of free speech, entertainment, etc. but I think this stuff is clear enough to be labeled objectionable by any imaginable standard of human conduct and public forums. And you have to choose to advertise in such a lawless medium and suffer the public consequences.

That was great Patrick. Put the names and the faces together with the smear monkey.
I had one occasion to listen to Savage and it only took about a minute to know he sucked. A guy who I considered my friend listened and beleived all his liberal bashing crap and tried to be "like Mike". He got nasty to me and I told him to not call me for a while until he pulls his head out.
Funny thing is how Savage goes after dubby from time to time, so they say, but somehow the blind followers still kneel before the likes of Savage and dubby.

110. A late answer
Area native. Went to high school with the mayor and had the dubious distinction of being on the same track track team my final year.

And yes I was thinking of the pressure brought to bear on Lonsberry when he made racist remarks. That stalwart of the local airwaves was dumped, exiled to a Clear Channel safe house in Arizona, then brought back crawling. Now Savage never would have been brought back(would he?) considering the local sentiments.
The general battle of course is far from over what with all the flood of peer support Lonsberry drew on to survive.

My district(Kuhl) is going to be challenged by Massa this time and I'm getting a new pair of walking shoes. He's a Clark protege and should win. We came close enough last time without a last minute campaign fiasco over Kuhl's leaked divorce records. I think we have learned about better campaign canvassing too.

56. Michael Savage advertisers
This web page - http://www.michaelsavagesucks.com/ - identifies Savage's advertisers and has a form to contact them.
Disclaimer: I haven't verified that this is accurate; just passing along what I found in a Google search. I don't listen to this idiot's program, so I have no idea if these are his current advertisers. If anybody can verify the list, please let us know.

Here's another resource: http://www.savagestupidity.com/boycott.html

And here's a page with info about this zit on the butt of humanity, on the web site of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): http://www.glaad.org/action/alerts_detail.php?id=3257&

And here's an overview of a June 2003 Democracy Now! story on the vile scumbag:
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=03/06/11/1643219

As always, it's important not only to boycott his advertisers, but to write each advertiser a letter and let them know whey you're not buying their products. I'll probably contact only a few, particularly the ones I might have considered buying from, for example FreeCreditReport.com, and, um, well, hmmm....it seems the rest of his advertisers have nothing to offer me anyway (General Steel Buildings?? F1 Race Factory?? ((WTF is that?)) RockStar Energy Drink?? CortiSlim???).

Is CortiSlim something to slim your cortex? If so, Savage must be taking mega-doses!

69. A thought on how to write to the distributors and sponsors.
First timer here. Savage is appalling in every way!

Thought I'd share some thoughts on what to do about this nut.

Obviously write to the sponsors and carriers of the show. But how you say it is just as important as what you say in these circumstances.

Chances are really high that organizations like Clear Channel and companies that would advertise on obviously far-right talk radio are going to tune you out the second you sound like, well, a DUer. In fact, they may even get the perverse idea that because it makes people like us mad, therefore they're doing the right thing -- and many righties do think this way, sadly.

SO... to that end, what we need to do, I think, is couch it in terms of "supporting the troops" and "endangering the troops"... because it's a rock-solid lock that it does exactly that when Savage's opposite number is trying to recruit people, and can play this stuff for potential recruits and say, "see, they hate us and want to kill us. Get them first." Somebody above said that this is already being distributed in Sadr City and other places not-so-friendly -- I don't know if it's really so, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Make it sound like you're at the very least a centrist, if not a conservative yourself, who can't believe your ears at what an irresponsible jerk this guy is. (And you can't, so that's not a stretch.) Say that this kind of stuff has no place on the radio, and that the station is incredibly irresponsible for carrying it or the sponsor really doesn't want its name attached to what amounts to an open invitation to shoot Americans. Wrap it in the flag. In other words, use their own methods against them, and see if it doesn't get you further. After all, it's gotten the Mayberry Machiavellis this far, hasn't it?

111. Right, focus on
what is universally detestable and not extend your wrath to particular liberal ideology. It must be something EVERY decent and law-abiding person must abhor and hence just about every consumer. Identifying your outrage as a small segment with a small beef won't keep them up at nights. A huge public negative among core, sane consumers will.

Then the switch comes in their thinking. Why am I taking hits for a nutball political ideology? I would be better off at least paying out in campaign contributions and getting the hell off Clear Channel airwaves. After all, advertising is supposed to be advertising, not dividing and alienating my consumers. If I take a hit, after all, what will I get out of it and what would I be able to do for my Conservative ideology in the future.

Or, "My god, is THIS what we are connected with???"

You can use their own methods especially well if it appeals to the vast majority and to the calm bi-partisanship that is the real mainstay of a wide stable consumer base. Being EXACTLY like the other side is useless if it is plain you have less clout and less numbers than the bullies on the other side.

116. The meaning of the message
Well, and the more we do this, bringing our message this way, the more likely it is that rank-and-file conservatives, the ordinary people who just want to keep us all fat & happy & safe and don't care for ideology, will start waking up and realizing just how far the party that claims to represent them has gone astray.

Even we Democrats are better off if the Republicans are like the Republicans of old (think Eisenhower) than like the post-Nixon party which focuses on waging a permanent campaign instead of, say, basic competence in government. That's the makings of actual government by consensus. That's something everybody should value, yet for some reason they don't.

I want them to realize that Ronald Reagan was wrong when he said that "government is not the solution to the problem, government IS the problem," and when he asserted that the best minds are not found in government, since if they were any good, big business would hire them away. The question which should naturally follow is this: "If not, why not?"

Why can we build billion dollar bombers but not attract good-hearted, sharp-minded people to public service, at all levels of government?

Why can't we have a government we can rely on in a pinch? Why is the phrase "good enough for government work", said when cutting corners and quitting before a job's done right, so tellingly true?

As I often tell Republican friends in one-on-one, reasonable conversation, at heart, don't we want the same basic things for ourselves? What's so hard about that? (And while we're at it, what IS so funny 'bout peace, love, and understanding?)

26. You are so right, Oversea Visitor.
I think a lot of good people would agree with you. Savage's - and Limbaugh's and Hannity's, for that matter - hate rhetoric will do more to hurt America's credibilty than almost anything else. The reason is, radio and telelvision personalities can reach millions of households. Even those Americans who were not always so outward with their racism suddenly feel empowered every time someone like Savage or Limbaugh actually voices his feelings toward others. They feel more comfortable doing it too, because they heard someone in a highly visible position do it. I worry that our children are being terribly corrupted by seeing and hearing people who are as disgusting as those who seem to support George Bush while they really are just promoting their own hate agenda. He's a weirdo. The ultimate prude and hauler of water for Bushco. Never heard anyone whine so much about petty personal problems.

He once held some kind of telethon to stop a Muslim summer camp somewhere.

The NNY radio station I listen to dropped him last year some time.

81. Wait a second...
Isn't the Duke accuser a single mother, and a student? I know she's somebody's daughter, probably someone's sister. Why do people forget that? I guess when you can dismiss 100 million people as deserving death because of some nutcase, then it's easy to dismiss one person.

Speaking of nutcases, if people want to belittle the Muslims because of Osama, how are we shocked that they hate us? There are people like Savage who vocally advocate the deaths of millions of Muslims, so of course he gets put on our boat, and we go down when he draws the torpedos.

25. Remember This Next Time You Hear about Some Radical Cleric
Whenever you hear some comments by a radical cleric in Islam calling for the death of americans, realize that this is NO different than what Savage is doing here. The ones calling for death, on both sides, are the radicals whether you like to admit it or not.

Next time someone mentions to you something about how Islam is a religion of hate, just point them to Savage and other comments by so called 'christians'.

Same difference.

Savage is the dirt-bag. Hypothetically speaking, if she were a "ho" as Limbaugh called her....that would make the Lacrosse team players who hired her "Johns," would it not? They are either guilty of rape (at the worst) or soliciting a prostitute (at the best). (Under Savages' view of things.) Either way, they are not the "fine, upstanding citizens" that people like Savage claim them to be.

I, for one, will not convict anyone regardless of race, creed, nationality, gender, sexual-orientation, class, etc. unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But, charges have been filed, and these players will have their day in court.

Neither will I call a woman who is working her way through school as a "stripper," or "dancer" or whatever other description she uses to describe her profession a "whore" or "slut." She gets the same benefit of the doubt....she is an innocent victim until proven otherwise---no woman "asks" to be raped.

The truth is, whether anyone wants to see it or not, only the people who were there know what happened, and no one should make judgments about any of them until all the facts are known.

What do you want to bet this scum-bag coward sucks up to the Christian "right"? Our god in America is the "right" god and the god the Muslims worship is the wrong god.

People like Michael Savage (and the "boys" from Duke) are the first ones to spend lots of money on porn, strippers, etc., and to defend their first amendment rights to do so, while insulting and dehumanizing the women who earn money "entertaining" them. They're nothing but vile hypocrites. But they're good Christians.

I stopped going to church a few years ago, after I saw the Christian values my church was promoting, and I have more Christianity in my little finger than all these right-wing wackos have in their whole bodies.

He says these things because being bombastic is his stock and trade. Savage is just a sad guy who craves ratings and knows that crazy, "over the line" statements like these attracts listeners. Hell, we're talking about him right now, which is exactly what he wants. Notice how everything he says sounds like a bad parody? That's intentional, I think. Not because he's mocking the right wing, but because he knows that pissed-off listeners are listeners who come back again and again.

I don't know if Savage believes a single word he says. It all sounds so contrived.

I've spent most of the past year working in Egypt. As I've ranted in other DU threads, I trust my life to Muslims every single day. (Need some irony in your blood? I'm an atheist.)

Just last week, in a little farm village out in the Nile Delta, I was chatting with an Egyptian man who suddenly asked: Why do Americans hate the Arab people?

Now I wonder why he would think that? :sarcasm:

It's not the first time I've heard the question, by a long shot. In some of those farm villages, I'm pretty sure I'm the only American people have ever seen. I hear similar questions all too frequently. They're not asked belligerently, but in a hurt tone. And it hurts me personally to know that our country has sunk this low.

(Fortunately, I can usually make the Egyptians happy with just 3 little words: "Bush no good!")

When idiots like Weiner and Coulter spew this crap nowadays, it doesn't just bounce around the Nut-Right Echo Chamber in America. Thanks to the Global Media Voodoo, this brainless, jingoistic crap can whiz around the world in no time.

In fact, I'd bet with William Bennett that I'll soon be reading Weiner's words in the local Egyptian press. Hell, maybe by tomorrow.

Even worse, the TRULY crazy Islamic fundies will be enthusiastically repeating this garbage in their Friday rantings around the mosques, in the poor and hopeless parts of town. And they will be assuring their listeners that Weiner does speak for ALL Americans.

I'd love for that big, brave loudmouth Weiner to come over here and bray his mindless racist bullshit in some of the streets I walk down every day.

Sorry I'm semi-coherent and not making much sense, but this really pisses me off.

51. Why don't pundits and reporters in the MSM
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 09:40 AM by tblue37
make a big deal about this and hound him off the air? If some liberal broadcaster made such remarks about, say, Ann Coulter or some other right winger, the public outcry would be fierce and the guy would be fired. And the pundits and news anchors would foreground the news that the person had violated decency, and Bush, Cheney, Frist, Santorum, et al., would be standing in front of TV cameras squawking that this is what the Democrats are like and that Dems are indecent and evil.

And Freeps and LGFootballers would be flooding the guys bosses with emails, letters, and phone calls demanding that he be fired.

The Republicans should be required either to reject outright or to "own" the ravings of people like Savage and Coulter, just as the most outrageous fringe elements are hung around Dems' necks. In fact, the Republcians do encourage and support their lunatic fringe and act on their wildest recommendations, whereas Dems don't, but the Republicans are never expected to renounce the worst comemnts from their fringe (which really isn't even their fringe at all, but rather their true core). But Barak Obama and other African-Americans are expected to "own" comments from anyone African-America, whether they agree or not, and any Dem that goes on TV is expected to answer for anything any other Dem or anyone on the left has said. Imagine how Tim Russert would grill a Democratic guest on his show if a broadcaster on our side had made such a remark.

But no one on the right will be called to account for these Savage remarks, because IOKIYAR.

64. This type of rhetoric
(if I could dignify such crap with this word) is strongly reminiscent of what was broadcast on the radios in Rwanda to incite genocide. If a person publicly broadcast statements meant to incite murder against an individual, would this not be a crime? Is it less a crime to try to incite murder against 100 million people?

This man is nothing more than another "shock jock." His sole strategy is to say anything that is outrageous enough to get people to listen to his show, to see how far he will go. And the broadcast companies allow his obscenities to be broadcast because it builds listeners.

As always, follow the money. Savage would dare to cast aspersions on a female stripper, who is not only not on welfare but, as I understand it, putting herself through college? The Bible assures us that the women, and men, who merely sell their bodies for sex and entertainment will enter Heaven far ahead of the hypocrites. There is no greater whore than someone who would sell his soul - and potentially the lives of others - for a buck.

75. The Rwandan comparison makes them nervous
I think it was Talking Points Memo (or maybe MediaMatters?), that brought up the frightened reaction of the Oxycontin O-Ray-Tor, himself, when "Rwandan Hate Radio", "Genocide", and "War Crimes" were all mentioned in the same news releases, some months back.

Our own local, southeastern Wisconsin RightWingRadio Whore, Mark Belling (who does some guest spots filling in for the Oxycontin O-Ray-Tor, on the big nationwide stage), brought it up, too.

Speaking of hypocrites, Belling has to be up there among the absolute worst. He's constantly playing up 'traditional, family values' (and their alleged defenders among Republican candidates) while filling a bar stool until bar-closing time, 4 or 5 nights a week. He then leaves with a different (always Caucasian) female sex worker, every night he's there. At least that's the word on the East Side of Milwaukee, since he goes to the same bar every time, right across from the Bally Total Fitness I sometimes go to. Besides the serious substance abuse issues this behavior raises, it begs the question, what sort of same-sex affectional demons is this man trying to ward off with that sort of flaming, "Don Juan" acting-out?

But I digress. The topic of the day is M. Weiner (aka "Saaa-vidge"), and I have to confess that I do sometimes listen to him. His voice and inflections sound remarkably like an investment broker/fellow telephone crisis line volunteer I once knew, whom I trusted to make some really bad (but high-commission) investments for me. And both of them had that New Yawk, comic, "Schtick/Spiel" patter down, as good as any Catskills Circuit veteran.

You wrote, "...women, and men, who merely sell their bodies for sex and entertainment will enter Heaven far ahead of the hypocrites. There is no greater whore than someone who would sell his soul - and potentially the lives of others - for a buck..." And I think the personal behavior of these guys must reflect the fact that in their heart of hearts, they all know they're going to face some kind of consequences, when they pass on. M. Weiner has actually become a sort of demonic tempter. He often plays up his boats, vehicles, fine dining experiences, and the other worldly aspects of his "success", with a sort of "You, too, can share in this" salesman's enthusiasm. How many marriages has the Oxycontin O-Ray-Tor been in and out of, now? These guys are all about buying and selling, and selling out, and not much else.

There really should be a law or at least a review of the FCC licenses for broadcasters that carry these foul mouthed hate mongers.

This guy is an idiot. I don't think his HATE speech is protected by the Constitution, but then again, he might be part of the RW effort to remove or water-down the 1st. Amendment Rights of Good Americans.

99. In the RW radio buffet of choices that the brainwashed dine at every
day, Savage is the most outlandish exotic nosh they can find. Even the most ardent neocons take him with a grain or ten of salt. Most I've talked to find him amusing, but over the top.

Thus, by comparison, the rest of the RW Noise Machine (you know: Rush-Hannity-O'Really-et al.) seems unexceptional and logical to them.

114. Moi wonders if they had hatemongers like that in Germany, in
the thirties, sometimes before (or/and during) WWII, except for the subjects of their absolute hate were another race. Their words of hate would have had to be quite similar... The ugly voices, the tones...

And Nobody Had The Courage To Stop Them Before It Was Much Too Late.

117. u know
did you guys know that hitler in the 30's, when he was gaining power, was sending hate all over germany and other part of europe about jew and minoritys, and that the allies, like france, britian, and other european nation didn't even care, they even refuse to address what hitler was doing, and then the european acted surprise when hitler and the nazi started to exterminate them in the final solution...what i am saying is that mr. savage is like hitler, he is sending hate, but we need to address him now because i don't want anyone to act surprise when 100 million innocent humen being muslum dies. oh, and it is never okay to rape a women, where do these guys ( lacrosse player and savage) got the idea that it is okay to blame women, don't you know that there is so many crime out there that is commmited toward women because of sexits people like this.

119. the arab wants an apology
i got this from PEACE IS THE WAY(u guys think that i should send this to mr. savage and the rethugs?), " since 9/11, i think americans have been waiting in silent fury to hear an apology from the arab world, one which they deserve. but the arab world is waiting in their own silent fury for an apology from the west for the humiliating era of colonism and the wanton disgard for arab pride after ww1, when the allies autocratically dismantled the ottoman empire. truth is that they deserve an apology as well." in ww1, the ottoman empire was tore up for the british and the french, (the ottomen empire was allies of germany, and austria-hungary), all these coutries in the in the mid east, they didn't exist before but because of the allies, now they exist....the point is that the west was the first one to hurt these people first, and like a the family who is advocating the death of the killer who kill their love one, these people are only responsing to what the west did to them, because it was the west that started it.

123. Michael Savage...
is a goat-blowing, self-hating Jew. Guys like him, Porky Limbaugh, Baby Jesus Hannity, and Loofah Boy O'Reilly would have been pulling their puds while standing in line to get a shot at that (these are probably the words THEY would use) "big jugged jig-a-boo". What a GOOF! Eat a non-kosher sausage and croak, Vitamin Boy!

127. Even my conservative neighbor can't stand Savage
And he's one of those Rush is right clowns to, but even he is disgusted by that wind-bag, saying he's too far out there...

But back to Savage...It's funny that Clear Channel dumped Howard Stern (back in 2004), but they keep that piece of sh^t Savage...I guess Michael gets freedom of speech while Howard does not...On a side note, I'm glad Stern went to Sirius...Satellite radio is awesome; between Stern & the ample music choices, no need for regular radio ever again..

Savage was fired while back on MSNBC from hateful comments he made to a gay man who called in....He's a total piece of garbage & should never be listened to, only ignored...
