"I pledge to remain sexually pure...until I give myself as a wedding gift"
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 08:03 AM by Viking12
Creepy..

I pledge to remain sexually pure...until the day I give myself as a wedding gift to my husband. ... I know that God requires this of me.. that he loves me. and that he will reward me for my faithfulness.

1. Sweet little christian kids
don't believe oral and anal sex makes them sexually impure, it just allows them to tell mommy and daddy that they are virgins. Creepy indeed.

In a few years she will pledge to do whatever she can to destroy the constitution just like all little "christians" have been taught.

CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER:
This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER...
Joe had a girl friend named Mary.
She used to go to the church club every week.
They'd meet each other there
Hold hands
And think
Pure Thoughts
But one night, at the
Social Club meeting Mary didn't show up...
She was sucking cock backstage at The Armory
In order to get a pass To see some big rock group for free...

...from Frank Zappa's Catholic Girls

8. God bless Catholic School Girls!
Doh...did I say that out loud?

Seriesly, where I went to school, in a small beach town in Florida, the town's only Catholic church had a school that only went up to 6th grade. So every year, the middle school received a fresh batch of Catholic kids who'd never experienced public schools, never knew the joys of speaking freely without getting smacked with a ruler by Sister Mary Cat. They were just dumped into the mix, right into the middle school, when every boy in town was experiencing the wild rush of Math class boners, and young titties were sprouting like spring daffodils.

Everything "bad" I learned, from pot smoking to "getting to second base" (and beyond), I learned from the Catholic school girls.

85. Hey watch the stereotyping please
I am devout. But I don't think that the Constitution shoueld be neurtered or changed based on my religious beliefs. I would venture to say that what you are talking about is a very loud and powerful minority. But we hardly speak with onbe voice.

DOn't lump all Christians in with the wingnuts and the Bon Jones U. types.

108. So wouldn't your argument
be with them, not me. I consider "christian conservatives" the number domestic enemy of the constitution today. They do not understand the concept of constitutional liberties therefore, I do not believe they deserve them. They pick and choose in the bible the passages which justify their hate and ignore those they find inconvenient. Based on your post I believe you should find it incumbent to help me change them, or at the very least protect the constitution from them. A much more powerful argument would be made by you against them, not me. As my signature lines says, I did not spend 24 years in uniform defending and protecting the bible. And I get extremely pissed when yahoos beat their bibles and decide they are going to amend the constitution and pass laws against people they hate; hate in the name of Jesus Christ.

I think this is as creepy as all get out.

These are kids who don't really have the capacity to make a pledge like this yet.

And it's creepy in plenty of other ways too.

So it's the religious belief - they can be as creepy as they like.

20. The idea of her making the pledge to her daddy makes me queasy.
Why isn't she pledging to both her parents? Isn't her mother worthy of the "relief" that she won't be a grandmother in the next five years?

This child is too young to understand the promise she is making and the countering forces awaiting her in the future.

I'd like to see boys making these pledges not to harass girls into "putting out".

26. What's creepy is that on this forum there has been a general
outcry for religious/belief system tolerance over the years I've been here. But, every now and again, you get somebody who, from the comfort of their keyboards, mocks and judges those who choose to practice their faith in their own way.

I don't agree with every religion or belief system out there, but you sure as hell won't hear me making fun of any of them.

49. Doing it "all the time" does not make it right.
Now, there are people, namely those of our current administration, who rightly deserve mocking. Oh, and pat Robertson, too. He needs a little mocking.

However, mocking a girl's and her father's belief system should have no place in a community where the members profess to be tolerant of all religions.

... and the entire way this is done is nothing less than ceremonial duress.

Just as studies show that those who make abstinence pledges are more likely to waver, I'd bet good money this type of pressure on kids is completely counter-productive and SERVES NO PURPOSE WHATSOEVER BEYOND MAKING THE PARENTS FEEL GOOD.

119. Who is mocking the little girl?
I feel sorry for the little girl because I would have been extremely uncomfortable taking such a pledge in front of other people at her age. I can also imagine what would happen to the little girl if she refused to take the pledge. It is quite possible that her parents would punish her or express disappointment with her. In any case, making mommy or daddy unhappy is something most little kids naturally want to avoid. For this reason, I cannot fault any child who takes this type of pledge.

As for the parents, I wonder if they really expect that their children will feel obliged to live up to a pledge that they were forced to make as young children or if they are just doing this because they want to look good in front of others.

Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 09:11 AM by seabeyond
or just flat out wrongs when i see them being used in the name of the lord. you may want to defend a religion, over the embracing of christ. i prefer the challenging religion to the walking away of christ. and since these religions in the name of the lord, are passing laws for all of us to follow whether we believe in their religion that they have the right to follow, i suggest i also have the right to not particpate in their religion.

when they get out of my business, and quit telling me who i am, and if i am christian or not, good or bad,.... then i will leave them alone. but today, their isnt a chance in hell i am going to leave them alone. we left them alone tooooo long and now look what we have. states declaring themselves christian states. congress coming to the floor on a sunday, because RELIGION told them too

get the religion out of my government and my life, and i will be out of theirs. but.... these religions have created this all themselves. and i have an obligation, in my view, in my interpretation of christ to stand up to the hypocrisy

so if you insist on defending these religions then you MUST also defend my right to challenge them in insisting i be a part of their religion that i feel does not follow christ

There is a distinct difference between "tolerance," "asking the government to intervene," and holding an opinion. We are not free citizens, unless we have the right to have our own opinions -- despite what the "PC" police thing. The goal is freedom, not mind control.

now, religion or not,... tell me where i am wrong

they teach 5 year olds about abortion and mutilating fetuses, and guys butt fucking each other.

i was in this environment with my kids in a christian school. they take there babies on up to see passion

they do all these inappropriate age things to these kids in the name of the lord.

give it to a 12 yr old. leave the 8 year olds alone and let them be a kid. if they are worried about their 8 year old becoming sexually active there are bigger problems in that family than some oath

My dad started and built a church about the time I was born so I was raised practically in church. When I turned 14 my dad told me I was free to do as I want if I hadn't learned by now I wasn't gonna learn. I only darken a church door if I am working there or it is a funeral. Ain't gonna' do it. Both boys tried the church scene but didn't last long. I think if the truth was known it was the girls there that attracted them in the first place.

Instead of getting kids to pledge something they don't yet fully comprehend, maybe the parents should pledge to openly communicate and connect with their child every day so that when the time comes to make these decisions they are able to do so with confidence and understanding. Just a thought. :eyes:

25. Yuck
I have no issue with the no sex before marriage pledge, I have plenty of friends that waited and are happy they did.
However these are children that are too young to know about sex...at eight I barely knew what sex was, let along virginity and pledges. If they are teenagers, who understand it and make it a personal choice it is fine. But these are little girls that are pledging that they will belong too the Dad until they are given to their husband. They are too young too even understand about sex and virginity, let alone make that kind of promise in public.... truely sickening.

Especially that she's making that pledge to her father. It gives me the willies. What's more, she's just a child. How can she possibly comprehend the oath that she's swearing?

I don't know about you all, but my parents didn't even want to go *anywhere* near the subject of sex with me until they had to. Mind you, I am a virgin by choice at 21. No issues with the decision to be abstinent, at all, but something about that just looks downright wrong.

of an adults mouth when talking about the errors of bush or any other repug, we are all sinners. though talk about a liberal or kerry or kennedy, they are going to hell. hey what happened to we are all sinners i tell my friends is that only for repugs. they all back down with that.

anyway, ... the jest. first child we are all sinners. k

second child we are all sinners, look at the 5 yr old face that tends to grow a couple horns, no way am i going to condition him that he is sinner. that is all he needs to use to fly with. not a chance. i look at him and say, sinner sinner, what sinner i see no sinner. i see lite nad beauty and joy, but no sin.

and i thought. here they condition at the youngest f age and continually say at every turn. they have to create sins to live so they can fulfill their pledge that they truly are sinners. i think this is why you have so many repugs doing wrong. claiming sinners, yet yelling a superiority. it is a universal law thing. what you yell the most about is really about you

(my niece told me this one) i was at a boyscout meeting and talking about the info on sexual abuse at beginning of book and i say, look i will take care of my kids, i dont want them to have this crap. then a leader talking about guns and i say, just to let you know i dont like them. he says we will use you as target practice. i glare... he comes over and sets next to me and starts talking about as boys get older and the importance of getting girls to interact with them, and boys dont know how as teens. (i am thinking, moms, sisters, friends???? what) they have camp outs and events and will invite a girls so boys can learn to interact. now i am grossing out thinking one girl to a mob of boys, creepy. then they go on to tell me a movie monday night for parents to watch before giving to boys about pedophiles. i walked out of that meeting so sexually grossed out i felt dirty. pulled boys out about two weeks later. i could never trust these poeple with my boys.

When I saw that you said they brought in 20 something year old young women to speak to girls to say that boys are bad until they are 25... they're implicitly telling high schoolers to date guys that are 25 and older.

And, good luck getting any teenage boy - gay or straight - not to look, or lllloooook.

I mean really. Sure, it's their beliefs -- fine. But really, of what consequence is it whether or not you remain a virgin till marriage? This is why I can't stand some religious people, because they have their own standard of morals, they judge YOU by their morals, and half the time, their morals make no sense anyway. Really, does taking a "sexual purity" pledge make you a better person? I just don't get it.

58. Yeah, in my FOLLOW-UP post
Not once in my original post did I say that they don't have a right to do as they please when it comes to their religious beliefs. I simply said that I can't stand religious people that try to enforce their beliefs onto other people that don't believe as them, namely me. If commenting about how they shouldn't force other people (that don't share their beliefs) to measure up against their own moral code is somehow enforcing MY moral code on them, then hell, guilty as charged. That's pretty much as comical as that cartoon about the Christian persecution. Apparently saying I don't approve of other people forcing their private religious beliefs onto me is somehow ME forcing my morals onto them. Okie-dokie.

As for the comment about it being creepy, yes, I felt the need to post my personal opinion since I'd rather state that myself than have you assume it for me.

76. When I was 9 or so, I assumed I'd be a virgin until I got married because
1. I thought boys were icky.
2. I knew the mechanics of reproduction, but nobody told me it was fun or felt good, and it never crossed my mind that you would want to do that if you didn't want a baby.

My parents never did tell me I was supposed to wait until I was married -- that was never their expectation. I got a lot of "wait until you're ready" and "this can KILL YOU if you do it indiscriminately and without protection" but marriage never really came into the picture.

Tried my best to educate her in the ways of the world. that's all I can do. She is a free person and well educated in lifestuff, but, no matter what, I will always love her, unconditionally and would not turn my back on her because of her sometimes inconvenient gender and the responsibilities she holds.

106. Wow, all I got was a fly fishing rod...
To be fair though, it was an RL Winston rod which is pretty damn slick.

107. The "pledge" was more than likely written by some old guy
whose got a big stash of porn under the bed. Pledges like this are meaningless because kids are coerced by adults to recite them.

I remember when I was being confirmed in the Catholic Church back in 7th grade and somebody cooked up a "pledge" everyone was required to stand up and recite stating that we wouldn't drink alcohol until we turned 21. It was ridiculous. Declaring something off limits just makes it more tempting.

132. Yeah I see this as creepy as well...
The poor girls don't understand fully what it is that they are pledging too and I'll bet by the time that they are teens they would have forgotten about it.

I would encourage my daughters around the time of puberty to abstain from sex but I would also educate them about contraceptives in case they do decide to do it.
