Yard Sign Says Man Will Pay For Virgin Child Bride

POSTED: 8:17 am EDT April 20, 2006

BRAY, Okla. -- A man is causing an uproar in his rural southwestern Oklahoma town by advertising that he'd like to pay for a young virgin to be his bride.

Michael Theleman, 45, said he doesn't understand the problem and thinks he just has some wicked neighbors.

Theleman has caused an uproar in the southwestern Oklahoma town of Bray with his search for a bride. He put a sign in his yard Sunday saying he'll pay $1,000 for a virgin bride between the ages of 12 and 24.

One of his neighbors said she feels like she's living near a pedophile. As of Wednesday, there were no offers.

Besides this is Oklahoma, where they elected a man to the US Senate, who was very public about how any doctor who performs an abortion should be executed.

...Theleman said he doesn't understand. He said his grandmother married "a much older man" at age 14.

After complaints, he put up a new sign Wednesday without the ages. The new sign said he's not interested in a "pig-worshipping, heathen, white-supremacist wife."

Stephens County District Attorney Gene Christian said Theleman's sign likely is legal.

..would he put up such a sign if he were looking for a good mule? Probably so. And come to think of it, why doesn't the prick just get himself a mule. Same difference as far as what he's looking for - a piece of cattle pretty much - unused, is what he's advertising for. Not that virgins between 12 - 24 are cattle, not that any women are cattle - but HE SEEMS TO THINK they are.

How charming.

57. Trust me, if someone goes to the troulbe and has the nerve
to put a PUBLIC SIGN asking for a baby bride, (and that's what it amounts to), the chances that he has never made at least furtive attempts at sexually approaching a young girl are zero to nil. Most NORMAL men DO NOT think of a 12 to 17 year olds for a possible wife in 2006.

18. age of concent in OK is 16 but with caveats
http://www.actwin.com/eatonohio/gay/consent.htm

STATE AGE OF SEXUAL CONSENT LAWS

Please keep in mind that many states have additional laws that are used to harass adults who have consensual sexual activity with minors. For instance showing a minor pornography, providing drugs or alcohol to the minor, or being in a position of authority of the minor, like a school employee can change the age of consent to a lower age. There are many cases of adults having a minor at their home without a parents permission, the parent will call the police and say their child has run away, and then direct the police to the home of the adult, who is not charged for having sex with the minor, but is charged with "contributing to the delinquency of a minor." This is a common set up by police, and judges love to throw the book at adults who have consensual sexual activity with minors. I do not have this additional information for all 50 states.

21. Another example of women being treated as pets or things
This has been a crappy week for women. Actually I think 2006 is the year of the anti-woman and I'm over it. States are challenging our rights to our own bodies, other states are voting on bills making it illegal to cross the state border to have an abortion even if you're an adult...yeah I know these are challenges to the Constitution but it still infuriates me. Pharmacists think they can judge us and deny our legally prescribed medications. People are blaming rape victims, creepy assholes want to buy virgins...perhaps he should go to that equally creepy daddy daughter virginity pledge thing. This sucks ass.

31. Its funny because Loretta Lynn was married at the ripe old age of 13
and there was no outrage over that fact. Yet a few years later Jerry Lee marries his 13 year old cousin and all hell broke out. How soon people forget how the good old days were. BTW, legal age of consent in mexico is 12.

I'm not saying this is right, I'm just pointing out that before anyone gets over board on this, laws did change.

I once asked someone why was it legal in the 1970's for legal age of consent in some southern states was 12 or 13. Their answer was women matured at an earlier age until the 1980's.

I remember growing up in the 60's where family members in southern states didn't think nothing of 12 to 13 yo girls being married off to guys in their 60's and 70's, that was so they could have a better life then their parents, yet I think it had more to do with the strain of raising 12 kids.

The laws changed mainly because of smaller families and a living wage, when women were pushing out broods of 12 or more kids the major concern was how to feed them all, one way was to marry them off. These pro-life people are trying to set up a world exactly like that again. 3 reasons this happened, 1.) religious beliefs 2.)free labor, most people that had large families were farmers more kids meant more workers to help run the farms 3.) no birth control.

This guy sounds like a fundie trying to bring back the good old days. Which is whats really bothering me about the fundies getting power, can you imagine a world where women and girl children are bought and sold to the highest bidder?

The sad thing is in third world countries this child bride selling is still going on. Girl children in asia and india are seen as a burden to their families, many end up in brothels.

well to do family that pretty much treated her as an indentured servent. When grandmother became of age, she was put up on the mail order bride list. So yeah I do know something about human nature when it comes to people that deem others less human then themselves.

I was just remembering a friends mother before and after she got born again, before she gave me and her son alcohol and cigerettes, she met her husband by flashing her breasts at him as he drove past her house to and from work every day. Then she became born again and she never did any of those things. It became well that never happened when I was growning up. Thats the way she thinks, can you imagine, but those nasty non christens in third world countries are doing it.

46. There's something about Oklahoma...
As recently as ca. 1996, Oklahoma City's news channel 4 (KFOR) had a feature they called "Jungle Love." In short, it showed how millionaire Oklahoma guys could fly to South America, literally buy young girls and bring them back to the U.S. to be in a "real Christian home."

I wish I had taped the thing, it was so surreal...the narrator acted like this was the most wonderful thing in the world. I could barely keep myself from puking my guts out.

As a teen in the 1970's it was well known that a few southren states age of consent was 12 and 13. Mississippi and Alabama are the two best known states that had age of consent at 12.

That is legal in America? I have no idea if paying a finders fee for a "bride" is legal. But I'm pretty sure you can't marry a twelve year old.. He thinks he can get around the laws by marrying her.

61. Remember a few years ago they picked up a member of the church of latter
day saints on bigamy charges and he got slapped with a CSC charge because one of his wives was only 13 when they married? As the story unfolded it turned out that he started dating her when she was 11. Later the CSC charges were dropped because they had been married long enough to have 2 or 3 kids together. In simple terms, it depends on ones brand of religion on something being sick or disgusting and many off shoots of religious sects have some pretty sick things going on that are never brought out. Also, because it is religion based alot of people never think twice about it.

Thats why I consider religion dangerous, people twist it around to get away with out landish behaviors and are blown off as religious nuts but most people blow them off as nuts and don't see them as dangerous. Shrub is a fine example of a dangerous religious nut, he thinks he can bring about Armageddon Because god ordained that he would be a great leader, the scary part was how many still believe that shrub was pre-ordained to be president.

I think a lot of these people took one bad acid trip in the 60's and passed the stupidity on to their kids.
