Did * Just Say He's Against Independence for Taiwan?

That's what I thought I heard. Is that the official USA policy?

4. Long standing policy for most of the Western World

Nothing new here. Its the one China policy. Up until the early 1970s Taiwan was recognized as the "real" China by the West. Now we recognize the PRC.

But that was a couple years ago........and we know how he speaks out of both sides of his mouth. $$$$$$$$$ and lookin for a new coalition can make a whore out of pigs ear in a flash.

Although, I think bush's actions towards China are dictated by the fact that they own our debt.

6. I just looked up the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979.

That's when we recognized China and basically ended diplomatic relations with Taiwan. In
other words, we recognized China as China, leaving Taiwan out in the cold.

It would appear that our policy since then has been:

1. to state that we are against an independent Taiwan, and

2. we will defend Taiwan from invasion.

Are we going to get involved in a civil war between Taiwan and China...lordy lordy..that would be armageddon for sure!
