Ellsworth Toohey, the GOP and Irony
Anyone else notice how they use the tactics of that "nefarious villain" of Ellsworth Toohey in order to get elected? I wonder what Ayn Rand would say...

1. You read my mind
I have been thinking about "The Fountainhead" a lot these days...

2. My automatic answer
to any Ayn Rand post is to note how clearly Chimpy exemplifies all the characteristics of Rand's bad guys. He's a fortunate son like Jim Taggart, a presentable gladhander like Peter Keating, a corporate chiseller like Orren Boyle, a killjoy like Toohey, a faceless and featureless creature of the bureaucracy like Mr. Thompson, and he enjoys torture as much as Floyd Ferris. And consider how much Rand despised religion.

None of which mattered because she is on record as saying Ronald Reagan would make a great president.

Maybe she was too senile by then to tell the difference between the real world and movies. (As was Reagan himself, come to think of it.)

3. With Halliburton demonstrating the 'politics of pull' and other looters...
...like Bechtel (sp?) and whoever was to have built those clinics in Iraq, the analogies are easily made.
