The disgusting bigotry against gays is turning America into a cesspool.

If something isn't done to stop the incredibly huge tide of this stupid evil shit, things are only going to get worse.

If they can get away with it with gay people they can get away with it with everyone else.

1. Sure, but don't look for the DNC to help you either.
How many times have the Democrats run from the issue for fear of upsetting those Bigots. Thankfully, we didn't approach Civil Rights in the 1960's and 1970's with the same timid fear of upsetting the biggots.

2. Well Hitler did it.
The religious fanatics are not the only ones pushing this form of government sponsored bigotry, some
politicians are going along to keep their seats.

The media has very little coverage, and the unwashed masses don't have a clue.

I say we destroy it and start all over again, only this time we insure that the Constitution reads that all men and women are created equal, and that no Constitutional amendment, either federal or
state, can permit bigotry.

3. and . . .
absolutely NO PERSONHOOD RIGHTS FOR CORPORATIONS!!!! The multi-national behemoths are out of control. They were created to serve people, not the other way around.

And to the original OP, you are spot on! Their hatred will fester & grow until they will need another group to direct their hate toward.

6. that's the core of a democracy
A mature democracy seeks to preserve the rights of the minority from being taken away by the voting majority.

Everything else is not democracy, just a majority vote.

And I would add that democracies are never "finished" products. The laws of thermodynamics apply to politics too; so a democracy, like a fertile rose garden, is a great place for growing weeds if you stop paying attention.

4. I thought equating rape with sex was turning America into a cesspool?

No, wait...it was immigrants. No, no...wait a minute...It's pornography! Or was it Windows XP?

Sorry to seem flippant, but bigotry against gays is not turning America into anything. You act as if bigotry of any kind is a new phenomenon. I'd argue that "bigotry against gays" has actually lessened in recent years. Could you have imagined even DISCUSSING gay rights amendments in the fifties?

There are a LOT of hot-button social issues which the right wing is trumping up, using as wedges to divide us. It is up to us not to allow them to do so. Teach your children, educate your parents, take a friend to a mixed club or invite your gay friends to your next barbecue. It has been shown over and over again that people who know gay people and have gay friends and co-workers tend to be much more tolerant of gays in general. But you won't be able to stop "this stupid evil shit." There are 300,000,000 people in America. A certain percentage of them will ALWAYS be homophobic. Just as there will always be those who consider NASCAR fans ignorant hicks, or fat people to be lazy slobs. It's human nature to want to easily compartmentalize that which we don't fully understand.

Work for change, accept those different from you into your life and do what you can to educate others whenever possible. As far as "if you can get away with it with gay people, you can get away with it with everyone else," well...yeah. And people have been "getting away with it" for centuries, and will continue to do so. Again, it's human nature. But contrary to what your rant implies, I think we are becoming far more tolerant of homosexuality that at any time I've seen in my 47 years. And that freaks out those who are incapable of tolerance on any level, so they become more vocal.

Don't let them frame the debate, don't let them own the stage. That's the best we can do.

5. it's a historical pendulum
the weird part is, catholics hated protestants, then vice versa, christians hated the "moors" in Spain and the heathens in the Holy Land and people everywhere have viewed anyone who doesn't look like their own gene line as vaguely inferior, even the oppressed.

We have all these abstract ideas about why PEOPLE are responsible for the world we don't like, and at least with an unashamed racist you know it has to do with skin color and not some unknown, unsee-able and for the most part unprovable abstract.

It's the religious ones decrying atheists and other faiths and the ones who think that something as abstract as what other people do with their gonads means anything who are the most irrational and dangerous to the rest of humanity.

They hate gays because gays are immoral. Why are gays immoral. They don't fuck like everyone else. I'd take it even further - single people don't fuck like everyone else either.

So who's next? Unmarried people, even if heterosexual? People who don't have sex at all? Married people who hate missionary position?

7. How could unmarried people prove they weren't gay - I don't think
they'll stop unless you have kids - yeah, that'll prove it (says the gay grandfather...)

8. Yup. It is just sad. In so many ways... the bell-weather we have been
winning about. The sign that religion wasn't any longer to be progressive and out there in front of the fight on equality and love.
