Bush* approval down to 35% in Florida/ Nelson creams Cruella/'08 polling
A new Quinnipiac Poll of Florida has some interesting features:

* Bush* has a dismal 35% approval rating and 60% disapproval in the state

* Cruella's campaign for the US Senate continues to sink--Senator Nelson is now ahead 56%-27%. He even gets 25% of the GOP vote and beats Cruella Harris by 57-17 among Independents.

* In an early look at the race for the Democratic nomination, Hillary leads:
Hillary: 43%
Edwards: 16%
Kerry: 12%
Biden: 8%
Warner: 4%
Feingold: 2%
Bayh: 2%

* Among Republicans Rudy Giuliani leads the pack:
Rudy: 42%
McCain: 26%
Allen: 9%
Frist: 6%
Romney: 4%

In a general election Rudy would defeat Hillary 52%- 41%, but a McCain-Hillary race would be tigher with McCain winning 48%-42%. Hillary would defeat Allen 46-40 percent.

1. Rudy cannot make it in the long run.
He only performed like a hero on one day of his entire mayoral term. He was brilliant on 9/11 and I won't take that away from him, but 'heartland' folks (values voters) aren't going to cast ballots for a guy who announced his adultery on TV. This is how Donna Hanover, his wife, found out. She was at home with the kids in the Mayor's Mansion at the time. That's just the most obvious gaffe. If it weren't for 9/11, he would have been totally washed up in politics years ago.

2. Guiliani, for better or wosrse, will fail with the Christian Right
The people who think that a tacky tryst with an intern is an impeachable offense aren't going to support a man who so causually and in such a cowardly way dumped his wife for the other woman.

It doesn't matter whether Guiliani has any good presidential credentials or not. He could be the second coming of Lincoln; it won't matter with that part of the GOP.

3. But aren't they already aware of his shortcomings?
Of course Florida has a lot of transplanted Easterners which may be why he is ahead there.

5. If they're not, I'm sure Bill Frist will remind them
At 6%, he's got to be desperate.

6. let's hope so, it has to come out in the primaries
but I'm not even sure Rudy's going to run--I've heard little about that from him, unlike the others.

8. The vote for Cruella was mostly horny teenage boys
and weird old men who want a crack at her two campaign high lights - the left one and the right one.
