Romney spends $800 million federal $$ on faith-based abstinence program
This program teaches abstinence not until after high school, but until marriage. It also puts forth innacurate scientific information in that the only discussion of contraceptives is their failure rate, etc.

=====

BOSTON -- Gov. Mitt Romney promoted a federally funded abstinence education program Thursday that he said will help students make healthy choices about when to have sex.

At a press conference at Boston Latin School, the governor said abstinence education is an important part of sexual education that doesn't get enough attention....
The program is called Healthy Futures and can be incorporated into a school district's curriculum on sexual education or can stand on its own.

Opponents worry that school districts will use the abstinence program in place of comprehensive sex ed because it is provided by federal funds.

Okla. man advertises for virgin bride
07:06 AM CDT on Thursday, April 20, 2006

Associated Press

BRAY, Okla. - A man has caused an uproar in this southwestern Oklahoma town by advertising in an unusual manner that he'd like to pay for a virgin to be his bride.

A sign that 45-year-old Michael Thelemann posted in his yard Sunday said that he'll pay $1,000 for a virgin bride between the ages of 12 and 24. "I feel like I'm living down the street from a pedophile," said neighbor Christy Sternadel. "We want him out of this neighborhood. Who asks for a 12-year-old virgin bride?"

As of Wednesday, no one had taken up Thelemann on his offer, but he had heard several negative comments from neighbors, which he said he didn't understand. He said his grandmother married "a much older man" at age 14. "I'm just somebody who is getting up there in years, and I'm looking for a born-again, God-fearing virgin between the ages of 12 and 24 who can bear me children," said Thelemann, who was divorced in 1989. "What's the problem?...."

~snip~(someone stole his sign)

....He put up another sign Wednesday that didn't include the minor ages. The new sign also noted he's not interested in a "pig-worshipping, heathen, white-supremacist wife."

I live in MA.

The information will come from ME!

Not some deranged, pseudo-moral, abstinence 'eduction' program....

5. How does telling kids, "JUST DON'T DO IT!" cost $800 Million?
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 03:25 PM by IanDB1
Because it costs a lot of money when The Moonies run the program?

6. Maybe the DHS employees need to be put through that program
given the recent news of sex scandals.

7. Healthy Futures websites says program available at NO-COST to schools!
Wonder why it costs nearly $1 billion when Healthy Futures' website say it's available at no cost:

8. He's a Mor-man -- that's his religion
It's disgusting for him to force his wacky religious opinions on others.

Also does he forget the history of his own church -- men with lots of wives?

I guess the Mor-man pioneers remained virgins until they had married all of their wives and then . . . . . . . .

9. Correction:
The 800 million is available nationwide for Healthy Futures. Romney proposes spending 1 million to implement the program for the first 9000 students.
