Back in '94, did the media give so many warnings to the Democrats?
It seems like they're giving nightly warnings to the gop about their potential losses in the Fall. Almost like they're giving them a heads up to get their act together. Comments?

1. Well, the MSM is owned by the GOP, right?

Protecting that paycheck, baby.

2. There are many differences in communication
Stories travel fast now. There are 3 cable news networks. Everyone has a computer. Information is everywhere.

3. not that i remember
there were a lot of dems falling asleep at the wheel, and underestimating the effects of 10-15+ years of RW hate radio with no opposing voice, so the '94 election was quite a shock

4. Playing the fall guy to set up the 'miraculous mandate'
... after Diebold et al have their way with tabulations and announce a sweeping GOP 're-election' which is supposed to convince all of 'Murka and the rest of the world of our fearless leader's popularity and all that crap ...

:puke:

5. '94 was different, Rush still had some pull...
The democratic congress wasn't even close to as bad as it is now, not by a long shot, but the republican tax-payer-subsidized spin doctors weren't recognized for what they were.

Unfortunately...they still aren't.

6. Rush and Rove are damaged goods. Take at some of the fallen:
Rush, Rove, O'Reilly, Card, Hughes, Hannity, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, Cheney...Bush.

7. Not as many warnings

but there was a calm-before-the-storm kind of aire to things.

Yeah, the over middle age white men who write and edit most of the mainstream news feel emotionally tied to the fortunes of the GOP. It's a company they may not own stock in, but their friends and colleagues and family do.

But the sadly funny aspect to it is how worthless all the direct and indirect "advice" these fellow travelers give really is. You can tell most of them really don't understand how things actually work and what "issues" and priorities really drive things. Let alone how it works. The really sad thing is, this are the editors and pundits and journalists that are specialized on domestic politics. I have a good snicker at most of it.
