Uh-oh, Rush says Lincoln would arrest Sen. Kennedy. Could you be next?

OK, short but sweet, about Rush today: Lincoln was in trouble in 1864, but not in worse shape than Lincoln; unlike this war by choice, he was fighting THE CIVIL WAR. Ever heard of it? Lincoln never had the chance to unite this nation except through his immortal and inspired words (unlike "nukular" by a man less coherent than Dan Quayle). But the big thing here is Rush, the point man for Karl Rove, says Sen. Kennedy would be arrested - now, today. And check it (hold your nose, you must) not for any specific criticism; he wants him arrested for opposing Bush. A senator, in a totally different situation from Clement Vallandigham. Best gird your loins, folks. Rush is setting the stage.

Rush: Okay, another great point. Lincoln was in worse shape, you're right, than Bush is today, almost didn't get elected for a second term, and ended up saving the nation and uniting it. And Ted Kennedy wanting to somehow appropriate about Lincoln and say that he is not an example of the things that Bush has done through fear(sic). If Abe Lincoln were the president today as he was in the Civil War, Ted Kennedy would be in jail.

There was a free press throughout the Civil war, and many, if not most papers were vile and attacking Abe.
At one point in time, when discussing whether to pass the Emancipation proclamation, he had to remove or ignore more than a few in his cabinet because of their objections. And their objections were public, not private.

Vallandigham wasn't jailed: he was sent South to live amongst the Confederates whose cause he championed. He didn't like it much, as he reentered the US through Canada a while later. The only time Lincoln failed to follow the writ of habeas corpus was in 1861, I believe, when he arrested some Marylanders so that the legislature wouldn't vote to seceed, leaving Washington DC surrounded by hostile states. When the SCOTUS ruled it uncositutional, Lincoln didn't do it again.

Another of many differences between Lincoln and the Chimp; Lincoln was masterful of putting his strongest critics in his cabinet-he was able to keep an eye on them, but he was also able to use them because they were among the most talented men in the country, and he needed them. Bush would die if he had to listen to the daily criticism Lincoln was subjected to. But then Lincoln, unlike Bush, didn't grow up in the lap of luxury. True, he failed at a couple of businesses, but he bailed himself out by paying back the debt a little at a time. He never took government money; when the New Salem post office closed, he was in possession of several dollars owed the government. They didn't ask for it until years later-and he handed over not only the exact sum but the exact coins-even when he was in the direst poverty, he never touched money that wasn't his. I've heard tell from kinfolk living in Springfield IL that Old Abe's been spinning in his grave ever since W took office.....

The list of shocking LINCOLN facts would disturb many here including the fact that the famous "emancipation proclamation" printed on his monument was a declaration of freedom ONLY for the southern states' slaves. LINCOLN ALLOWED Maryland, Deleware, West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri to KEEP their slaves... while declaring the slaves of the south FREE!!!!!
These slaves got their freedom only AFTER the Civil War, AFTER Lincoln had traded these slaves misery for the "good of the union" as these states politicians were southern "leaning".

deny the facts all you want. Let me make a number of things clear. The end result of Lincoln's actions was POSITIVE for our union. I'm a strong supporter of the "effect" from the Civil War, just not some methods involved. Let's start with a few off the top of my head, these are factual and etched in stone so don't even think of trying to disprove them:

1) In 1861 a New York newspaper published a list of 100 newspapers located in UNION states, these papers had editorial content CRITICAL of the administration's handling of the SECESSION/ONSET OF WAR. Lincoln ORDERED the Postmaster General to shut them down or give them the opportunity to "change their viewpoint". Most of these papers never again re-opened and many editors were imprisoned without warrants on the direct order of Lincoln.

Now imagine 2006, BUSHCO sends secret service agents to the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Herald... they lock the doors, turn off the presses and send everyone home. They arrest the editors and owners and send them to Gitmo or some scary Eastern European prison...

PLEASE TELL ME my comparison is invalid, I'll tear you to shreds. After a period of failure to contradict this argument, I'll keep listing my points of argument, one at a time... you ready? Bring your history books only, no blogs or cheezy links.
