Poll question: Poll: If the primary were today and only between Kerry and Gore?
I realize this is artificially limited, but I am just curious where the majority of DU would fall out on this.

The reason I limit this to Kerry and Gore is that they were the two most recent Democratic nominees for the presidency, and both ran good but flawed campaigns, and both arguably lost as a result of election fraud.

Also, if either of these candidates are your first choice, I would be curious who you would suggest as a running mate.

a stick. But at least recently Gore seems not to be afraid to say what he really thinks. Of course he's not running for anything either, so he doesn't have to care who he upsets.

Have you heard Gore lately?
I think he has been completely transformed by experience and contemplation of what has happened to this country.

I didn't want to put this in the OP to bias the poll, but I'm a big fan of Gore now.

24. Yes I have, and I was impressed too, BUT
as I said in my reply, he can say what ever he believes now because he isn't running for anything. He doesn't have to worry what group is going to be pi**ed off at his remarks.

I'm sorry, but I really think if he ran again, you'd see the old Gore back.

I'm not really slamming him as much as I'm slamming all candidates in all parties! Everyone of them is so afraid of pi**ing off some group, all we ever hear is the fence sitter position!

30. In the age of video, he cannot "take back" his February speech
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 07:49 PM by HamdenRice
He must know that having made that kind of speech, he is basically committed to those ideas if he comes back into electoral politics.

The reason I've been so excited about Gore is I think (hope) he is planning on making a comeback based on being the anti-politician -- ie just telling the truth about the environment, the war, and the unraveling of the constitution.

3. I love these two presidents. Love 'em to death. 'Would take either
in a heartbeat, no problem.

Off the top of my head, I'd match Gore with Richardson, as I think the Immigration issue is going to be bigger in 08 than it is now, and it's huge now.

For Kerry, maybe Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas (I thank other DUers for this suggestion...I think it's a good one, no matter the top of the ticket).

46. Both are good men, but Gore was the more standard politician
If anything, Kerry has done things because they were the right thing to do more often than any other politician. In going after BCCI, Kerry went after Democratic party officials and money men who had allowed themselves to be bought by BCCI. For that matter, Kerry came back from Vietnam and became an anti war leader. Even at the time, he knew it could hurt him in the future.

Gore only became less a politician after he returned in 2002, when he wasn't a politician. Over his entire career though he was a very serious, hard working public official and a politician.

49. That's ABSURD! "Politicians" don't investigate government corruption -
Kerry did and did it almost entirely on his own when NO OTHER SENATOR, including Gore at the time, would go near IranContra and most tried to talk him out of investigating BCCI. And Clinton and Gore didn't lift a finger to open the books on those traitorous scandals OR help on the CIA drugrunning which surfaced during their first term.

And who was it advocated for gays to serve openly in the military while others were seeking politically safe ground?

Try reading the congressional RECORD and the National Security Archives and find out the actual records of these men. I love Gore now and know he would have made a very good president, but, a POLITICIAN chooses to make dirty song lyrics a national issue, while an HONEST SERVANT OF THE PEOPLE investigates and exposes government corruption.

We need to unite and come together, not divide over divisive candiates? Joementum can bring the parties together and Jeb would serve as smooth transition from the W. Bush administration.

What do you think?

and global warming . . . he's someone who could actually start turning this nation around . . . first on the environment, and then on other issues . . .

and because he's already WON the presidency (by 500,000 in the popular vote) -- though it was negated by Supreme Court fiat . . .

He is brilliant.

He has stated, listening to advisors was a mistake and if he ever ran again, he would just be himself.

From what I’ve seen of him this year, we would be seeing fire in the belly Gore.

I love Kerry too, but we need someone who will come across with big-time passion.

53. I remember to much of the old Gore in the "90's and how he ran in
2000. Critcize Senator Kerry all you want, but he did a better job in 2004 and ran a better campaign trying to reach out to the grassroots. Gore seemed to ignore small towns and the grassroots. Kerry was challanging an incubnant war time President semingly harder to unseat. For Gore, it was his to lose. Clinton was popular, our economy was strong, jobs were plentiful and we were at peace. Gore chose to distance himself from Clinton, going after values voters. Gore couldn't even convience his homestaters to vote him into office. And on election night he begain a fight to count all the votes- for himself only. Not once did he mention the cause of fairness in voting and voting rights.

I voted for Kerry.

Neither is a person of vision, just retreads of the same tired old politicians. What this country needs is someone who inspires. I am so down on politicians of both parties since, it seems, the majority of all are either jerking us around or complacent in the face of the jerking.

I found him to be a very uninspiring candidate and I didn't think he pushed his agenda as Vice President. I think he's a good and smart man, but he would not be my choice for President. I hope he doesn't run again, but if he does, so be it. It's a free country. If he wants to run, then he can raise money, gather supporters and give it a shot. I certainly don't hate the guy. I just didn't care for him as Vice President.
