A Takeover Of The Internet by Congress - Is this for real???
Congress is now pushing through a law that would give control of the Internet to giant companies who want to charge big bucks for things that are currently free or low-cost---everything from posting a webpage to being able to use audio, video, and photos online.

11. The FCC is for net neutrality and against this AT&T crap
Google, Microsoft, et al should have enough lobbying power on their own to offset the calls of AT&T and Bell South. If nothing else happens I hope pure market forces will never make these greedy ideas from AT&T a reality. If nobody pays for priority bandwidth then everything should remain the same. If AT&T starts slowing access to everbody that doesn't pay, service and content providers are going to drop them for somebody else.

AT&T, Bell South, and everybody else talking about destroying network neutrality had better watch out about shooting themselves in the foot. Those $40-60 broadband residential connections could be in jeopardy if people notice that the speed just isn't there anymore, not to mention the commercial customers who will switch when they find that their traffic is artificially slowed down in transit because they didn't pay additional fees on top of the money they're already paying for bandwidth..

12. Big Money wants to slay Network Neutrality
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 09:04 PM by Blue Fire
Big internet providers like AT&T and Verizon are hard at work lobbying Congress to gut the Internet's First Amendment - Network Neutrality. If these corporate assholes are successful, websites - such as DU - would have to pay 'protection money' to ensure their sites open easily and operate properly on your computer. Another right wing attack on free speech. Sign the MoveOn petition! http://www.civic.moveon.org/save_the_internet/?id=7356-6706752-_u831TZ8wk1dPQ3cqkRjjg&t=4
