The projected order of finish in tomorrow's primary is: Ray Nagin, Mitch Landrieu, Ron Forman, with the contest between the latter two for second. That, despite the sense among some observers that Republican Rob Couhig is gaining ground on Forman.

If Mitch Landrieu can stay in front of Ron Forman, then there will be a run-off between Nagin and Landrieu - Landrieu will likely win in this scenario. :)

9. I switched to Mitch

after someone I used to work with down there, who was rumored to be considering the race, decided not to.

It's been a long, long time since any candidate in N.O. had roughly equal support among white and black voters. That's just what the doctor ordered right now. Plus, his current boss is Governor, and his sister is Senator, so Team Landrieu/Blanco would be in the best position to make sure all levels of governmant are on the same page.

Besides, look at the opposition: Nagin (I love chocolate, but please), Forman (another repuke-turned-Dem), Couhig and Wilson (unashamed righties :puke: ), Watson and Boulet (both promising, but need more seasoning; future Council seats, perhaps?), Williamson-Butler (got arrested, then outdid Kaloogian's faux Baghdad pix by using pix of Disneyland's New Orleans Square instead of the real thing, all in one brief campaign!) and another dozen or so people who came up with the filing fee.

edit: I have not been an Orleans Parish voter for fifteen years now, but an outside possibility exists that I may be so once again, so I'm keeping close watch on this.

all manner of other colors. He's a true, blue man of New Orleans and brave and compassionate, to boot. He will be Governor one day not too far away. If I had any money, I'd bet on it. I like him better than I do his sister. Wish I could vote.

His dad, Moon and Vera, live (or at least used to live) across the street from a good friend of mine. William (my friend) always spoke highly of all the Landrieus.
(I live in Atlanta now, nothing Katrina related, though).
Also, I worked with sister Mary many years ago on the Mondale-Ferraro campaign in New Orleans in 1984. New Orleans went for Mondale-Ferraro, the rest of the state went for Ronnie Reagan.
I'm hoping this mayoral election will be a turning point for the better of New Orleans as well as the rest of the state.
