Rahm Emanuel on Bill Maher is disappointing
Bill asked him how we were going to win 2006, and he gave a 5 point plan that DID NOT MENTION OR INCLUDE IRAQ

As far as I am concerned nothing has been learned for the past 6 years by the democrats.

She is extremely annoying . . . she's asking for them to answer a question and then won't shut up long enough to listen. Who is she, seriously? What is the Independent Women's Forum?

The Independent Women's Forum

What is the Independent Women's Forum? Who runs the show at their Washington, DC-based offices and what are they about?

Media Transparency, a website tracking the money behind conservative politics, says that IWF, which has a $1.3 million yearly budget, is "neither Independent nor a Forum. Not independent because it is largely funded by the conservative movement. Not a forum because it merely serves up women who mouth the conservative movement party line." Between 1994 and 2001 IWF received more than $2.4 million in grants from such right-wing foundations as Castle Rock Foundation (Coors Family), the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, John M. Olin Foundation, and the Sarah Scaife Foundation. (For more on IWF, see: mediatransparency.org.)

IWF's Mission Statement is straightforward enough: "to affirm women's participation in and contributions to a free, self-governing society."

Here are the fine points:

"The Independent Women's Forum speaks for those who:

"Believe in individual liberty and responsibility for self-governance, the superiority of the market economy, and the imperative of equal opportunity for all.
"Respect and appreciate the differences between, and the complementary nature of, the two sexes.
"Affirm the family as the foundation of society.
"Believe women are capable of defining and asserting their interests and concerns in private and public life, and reject the false view that women are the victims of oppression.
"Believe political differences are best resolved at the ballot box, and therefore oppose court imposition of what the democratic process rejects.

"Endorse individual recognition and reward based on work and merit, without regard to group membership or classification."
Here's how Chris Black opened his May 2002 Chicago Tribune piece on IWF: "The conservative women at the Independent Women's Forum are cheering the return of the guy. From their standpoint, the terrorist attacks on the United States turned the feminist tide and brought back traditional values, a retreat to home and hearth, and an appreciation for the manly man."

Black points out that although IWF only has 1,600 members and prints only 16,000 copies of its journal, "The Women's Quarterly," the organization is "enjoying stature and influence in Washington far beyond its modest membership."

This is not surprising considering the high powered and well-connected conservative women that sit on IWF's Board of Directors and Advisory Board. Grace Paine Terzian, publisher of the Women's Quarterly, told Black that "We increasingly gain notice and respect. More of our type of people are in town now with the Bush administration. It is a good time for us. The common-sense ideas we have always promoted are now being played out in the administration."

Founded in 1992, as a direct response to the Clarence Thomas hearings, IWF's Board of Directors (including Directors Emeritae) consists of Chairman, R. Gaull Silberman, Vice Chairman, Heather R. Higgins, Carol Crawford, Kimberly O. Dennis, Wendy Lee Gramm (economist and wife of Sen. Phil Gramm), Nancy Mitchell Pfotenhauer, Sally C. Pipes, Directors Emeritae: Lynne V. Cheney, wife of the vice president, Midge Decter, Elizabeth Lurie, Kate O'Beirne, Washington Editor for the National Review, and Louise V. Oliver, former Vice President of Government Relations at the Heritage Foundation.

Everytime I've seen Rahm on tv, he's kicked ass.

You want to eat your own, then welcome to defeat in 06. Don't blame Rahm.

here is what I believe they were:

1. balancing the budget
2. healthcare
3. education
4. energy

I can't remember the 5th, and even though these issue are important, not to mention the Iraq war is a travesty in my view

25. So you think it's constructive to trash Rahm on DU? He offers a PLAN
a plan that the GOP and Mediawhores constantly say we don't have... and you complain because he doesn't discuss a plan for Iraq.

Hmm, maybe with people paying $3+ for gas and no health insurance and unstable jobs people WANT TO HEAR ABOUT DOMESTIC ISSUES.

29. why do you think they are paying 3 bucks for gas
part of it is because of the Iraq war

I know I do not have to tell you how immoral the war is and how much death and destruction it has caused, but it has also destabilized the middle east, and unless the madness stops, everything else might be moot. It is not that the domestic issues are bad, it is that some of the reasons for the problems with the domestic issues are directly related to Iraq, and we do NOT even mention it, as we were afraid in 2004

42. thanks for that list....keeper
Melissa Bean, next door to me, is a real treasure.

she voted for CAFTA, and is in thrall to big companies on the North Shore corridor

she spoke at our school a few weeks ago (internet predators) and it was very sad/funny. the kids saw right through her, and her "info" for them was laughable. they are SO FAR ahead of what she thinks she knows about online communication.

reminded me in a way of Reefer Madness

she knew she wasn't getting over, too

so did her advance team

wish I'd taped it

47. I know nothing about little Johnny Edwards and have no clue
whether he was or is a member of the DLC. Wes Clark is NOT a member and as far I know, never has been a member. Does that satisfy your inquiry? If you have PROOF of Wes Clark ever being a DLC member, I would appreciate a link to back up the claim. Thanks. An old membership list with his name on it, with a link, would be great.

50. wes clark may not be a member-
but that may only be because he has never held elective office- i do know that he is awfully chummy with the Clintons and other DLC'ers.

46. I Thought The Whole;e Program Was Lame Last Night....
Except Bill's last comments about the environment! Heather Higgins really was getting on my NERVES, and she just kept talking and talking and talking and talking...

She was just about the whole show! Even when Zinni tried to make points she just kept on TALKING! I noticed the audience was pretty quiet too!

Thumbs down for last night anyway!

48. Please tell me this guy is irrelevant.
Because if he is the face of the Democratic Party, we are screwed.

What a stupid fuck. Excuse my blunt language, but if you don't know by now that one of the main points the Dems need to run on is troop withdrawal from Iraq, then sorry to say - you are a stupid fuck.
