Thomas the Tank - The US needs you!
Thomas the Tank: The US needs you.

I have posted this suggestion/idea before, but it is definitely germane to the gas price situation that I believe will not get better soon and I really think we should be pursuing other means of transportation.

Anyone who has ever been to Europe has had the unique experience of riding their rail system which is great. Their trains go to every nook and cranny of almost every country. Just walk out of your house, down the street and grab the train.

I am think we should seriously explore this as a solution to paying at the pump. Why can’t we have a type of commuting system w/ high-speed (186 MPH) trains? We could have excellent transportation, inexpensive commuting and new jobs!

Because I am disabled, it is difficult for me to write a long post. But hey DUers, what do you think? I think it would be a great issue to run on in the congressionals or 2008.

Here’s what the TVG French trains look like. Nice, eh?

1. Couldn't agree more Caledesi.
As for fast trains I've only ridden on the Japanese Bullet ages ago and it was far beyond anything this country has today.
My love affair with the car ended decades ago. I would love to see the trains come back.

2. It excites me, just thinking about it. The plan, the execution, the
results. Wow! I think most people would go for it even if they aren't from NY or other cities where public transportation is not seen as "for poor people." That type of thinking is so outdated.

4. Here in Boise we have a beautiful train station
It is no longer active since passenger service no longer comes thru Boise.
Man would I give my eye teeth to be able to take the train to Portland,
enjoy the scenery, relax
and not have to drive drive drive.

6. That is sad. We could have a great thing going here and a lot of
the "groundwork" is there, just has to be retrofitted.

5. BB - excellent idea. How do we get this thing going? I mean
we have to tell our reps about this idea.

7. Try to make it a plank in the next Democratic Platform is my best advice.
The GOP will NEVER go for it because the people paying them off would not find this in their best interests!
