Save the Internet and the DU: please sign petition
Congress is about to sell out the Internet by letting big phone and cable companies set up toll booths along the information superhighway. Companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending tens of millions in Washington to kill "network neutrality" -- a principle that keeps the Internet open to all. A bill moving quickly through Congress would let these companies become Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow -- and which won't load at all -- based on who pays them more. The rest of us will be detoured to the "slow lane," clicking furiously and waiting for our favorite sites to download.

If this passed the DU will move into the slow lane. This really is about the survival of the DU and the internet as we know it!

1. Just one moment, please
Which bill? Where can I read it?

I'm not giving my information to some website just because it sounds like an urgent plea to do something I should agree with.

I hate to be a cynic and a scoffer, but I have to ask, what's going on?

3. I signed a petition like this with MoveOn.
Here's a copy of what I receive from MoveOn:

Do you buy books online, use Google, or download to an Ipod? These activities will be hurt if Congress passes a radical law that gives giant corporations more control over the Internet.

Internet providers like AT&T and Verizon are lobbying Congress hard to gut Network Neutrality, the Internet's First Amendment. Net Neutrality prevents AT&T from choosing which websites open most easily for you based on which site pays AT&T more. Amazon.com doesn't have to outbid Barnes & Noble for the right to work more properly on your computer.

Politicians don't think we are paying attention to this issue. Many of them take campaign checks from big telecom companies and are on the verge of selling out to people like AT&T's CEO, who openly says, "The internet can't be free."

The free and open Internet is under seige--can you sign this petition letting your member of Congress know you support preserving Network Neutrality? Click here:

http://www.civic.moveon.org/save_the_internet

A list of all the ways you might be affected by Net Neutrality is located on the bottom of this link: http://civic.moveon.org/alerts/savetheinternet.html

Thanks!

I'm sure you can go to MoveOn and find the same info. you don't have to sign any petition, but it would be great if you sent one to each of your Senators and Rep telling them to vote NO!

2. I signed this already when I got an email from a friend earlier today.
I actually think it would be a GREAT idea if each of us sent individual emails, letters, phone calls to our Sens and Reps about this! They need to receive a delhuge of contact to scare them into doing what we want!
