2. Didn't know about this program, Eric, so thanks for the update.
Edwards is too often dismissed. I think he's quite a bit better tuned and layers deeper than he's often given credited for.

4. I think Eric Alterman said in an interview that one of the biggest signs
that we didn't have a liberal media in the US is that every paper in America had dropped their "labor' sections, and that, although PBS and NPR have dozens of shows that give capital a voice (MarketWatch, Nightly Business Report, etc.) they don't have a single program that gives labor a voice.

If AAR has a new program that discusses WORKERS issues, they are filling a void that shamefully and stunningly exists in American media.

10. Thom Hartmann said yesterday that in the 1960s
when he was a kid, newspapers had Labor Sections.

(Thom Hartmann is a liberal radio host syndicated by Air America, during the same time Al Franken is on.)

Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 01:55 PM by BlueEyedSon

14. Thom Hartmann may have said that at some other point, but
when I was listening to his radio show on Friday he said, "What happened to the Labor Section of the newspaper which I remember from when I was a kid in the sixties?"

13. I think I read that the Buffalo News was the last paper to drop its labor
section, and that was in the 70s (or maybe it was when Warren Buffet's Berkshire-Hathaway bought the paper). Buffalo has the highest % of its population belonging to unions of any metro region in America -- 25%. So, that's why they were the last paper to have one, I guess. But's it's still a disgrace that the BN dropped the section.

7. I think John Edwards is our best possible candidate for 2008.
I certainly pray that it is NOT HIllary, Kerry or Gore.

11. Edwards is debunking the lies about those in poverty
Edwards stated that most in poverty DO work.

He's promoting increasing the minimum wage and unions.

Edwards also stated the last thing our Democratic party needs is to "shift and vacillate," to have "one foot in one camp and one in another;" the country needs leadership which comes from having a set of convictions and standing up for working people. He said, "I'm a Democrat because it gives a voice to those who don't have one." "We cannot let the soul of our party slip away."

Great interview, short but good.
