Sometimes they change the motif on the birthday of a famous artist. Most holidays they have a matching theme.

... or "special day" in this fashion.

Perhaps their choice of decoration of GOOGLE is intended to conjure up particular images associated with the day in question ... I'm probably naive, but I don't read too much into it.
