So you got a $300 tax cut ?
How much more are you now paying in gas prices? You got no break at all. How much more are you paying just in interest on the national debt? You don't have to be a genius to figure out that is a lot of taxes you or your children will have to pay. And that's just the minimum on the old credit card Republicons...

4. Everyone I know got less back this year, and that is not even factoring
in those rising gas prices, increased property taxes, costs of goods and services going up...

So much for that "keeping more of YER MONEY" bullshit!

Texas.

Those tolls are going to hurt middle-class and poor people.

8. I remember being furious at an acquaintance who told me that
was the sole reason she was voting for Bush. She was extremely politically unaware and probably didn't vote most of the time, but she was willing to drag her sorry butt to the polls to get what she thought would be a $300.00 payout.

9. I know someone like that ...

This guy is so dumb he actually scheduled his vacation around it. He had this idea in his head he was going to get an actual check for X amount because Bush was reelected. And when he didn't get it, he somehow found a way for his tortured mind to blame Democrats for it.

Ya can't argue with fools.

16. Wasn't that the purpose of the tax cuts for the 'little' people? They
were thrown a crust of bread and * got their 'love' and vote while the millionaires got the real tax cuts.

12. I remember back before the 2000 election....
I was talking to a Republican who was trying to tell me that Bush and Gore had the same positions.

At the time, I didn't know much about Bush but I knew if he got elected, it would cost me money!!! It cost me money when his father was elected and I knew the son wouldn't be much different.

13. It was never a "tax cut." It was a loan.
You paid it back on your next tax return. The IRS fudged the tax tables to hide this fact, and referred to the $300 as an "advance on refund" or something like that.

19. EXACTLY!!!
A lot of people don't even realize this, but if you received that $300, you had to pay it back! There was a section on the following year's tax form asking if you received the $300 refund, and that was deducted from your return. Fuckin rubes.

14. I didn't get the $300, but I got zonked along with the idiots that voted
for the Emperor.

City, County and State taxes increased.
Fees increased like drivers license and auto plates.
Schools and municipalities have raised millage to make up for Federal cuts.

We have all ended up paying more than $300 in additional fees and taxes.

22. any single person with over $6000 in taxable income
gets the $300 every year since 2001. School taxes tend to go up every year, just like everything else. The $300 is not the point, since as sinkingfeeling has mentioned it was tied to much bigger cuts for wealthier people. It is the latter part that I usually focus on, but it is wrong to deny the existence of the $300.

:tinfoilhat:

I have neither a car, nor kids. but this is still accurate and immaterial (from yesterday's altercation)

"First, you say that your income is basically the same as it was five years ago. OK, that's plausible. But if that's true, your federal income taxes must have gone down because marginal tax rates are now lower than they were in 2000. Check out any website that has historical tax rate data (such as moneychimp.com)."

21. "federal income taxes..."
Never mind that food, housing, gasoline, state taxes, city taxes, school taxes and everything else has gone up as wages have gone down. Yeah, but I'm paying less in federal taxes....uh-huh.
