The Day the Music Was Re-Born...

Don McLean had a song with the words "The Day The Music Died". Lately, I have felt that music was indeed, near death. It no longer had the power to move people and to create actions with words and songs. However, I may have to change my mind on April the 28th. Neil Young is releasing his song in a hurry-up production with the title, "Let's Impeach The President". Supposedly it is a rather long song which goes into detail about why the President should be impeached and does it in such a way that moves people. Could this be the day that music is re-born? Wouldn't that be great?!

13. Not to take anything away from the protestors, but artistic expression...

... is a necessary component of dissent, and there's quite a historical precedent for it.

Millions will hear Neil Young's music, wherein, sadly, only a handful of people will see those photographs of the young dissenters you pictured.

Protest is necessary, but dammit, so is art.

I'm not sure either are heroes, honestly. But both are brazen. And I'm appreciative without dismissing any form of dissent.

if he doesnt like this country? They may attempt to "Dixie Chick" him to no avail. Neil is too popular, respected and can elequently hold himself in political discourse.

I really would LOVE to see what rains down on their pointed heads if they dare to take on Neil Young, who is a one-man philanthropic empire. He's done so much good for so many charities, he's impeccable.

12. Have you seen all the CNN reports about "Bush-Bashing Hollywood"?

They've done a series of reports recently about the "rash" of anti-Bush sentiment coming from entertainers across the country. Referring to films that lampoon the President (the latest Scary Movie; American Dreamz) and music that criticizes him more deftly (new Neil Young and Dixie Chicks), CNN is concerned about the "bandwagon-jumping Bush haters of Hollywood."

It's mindboggling, isn't it? Neil Young is "new" to protest music? Have they ever heard "Ohio"?

The Dixie Chicks are jumping a "bandwagon"? Didn't they drive the freaking bandwagon back in 2003?

In addition, they claim the "protest songs" are "new" and prior to current times, musical artists haven't been interested in criticizing the president. They note that the president's crumbling approval ratings have made it more attractive for artists to "come out now" with criticisms, which would have been "impossible" when the president was "super-popular."

Nice research, CNN! Ever heard of that obscure, non-selling artist called "Eminem"? He wrote this song called "Mosh" that was pretty pointed and popular back in November '04. Likewise for the little-known band "Green Day" and their album "American Idiot," which nobody bought, of course.
