South Carolina Dept of Trans holds memorial service in Baptist church ..
Today the South Carolina Department of Transportation held a memorial service in an upstate Baptist church for all the victims killed in car wrecks on the state's highways over the past year. I have no problem with a memorial service for these victims, but I'd rather a state agency not sponsor it. Is this normal in other states? Is it normal in SC? The upstate of SC is, I realize, BoJoLand (Bob Jones "University").

I just saw the story on WYFF-TV in Greenville, SC.

1. Is this being paid for by the taxpayers?
No problem with a memorial service, but why is it being organized by the DOT?

If conservatives are really serious about curbing "wasteful spending" you'd think they'd find ways for private groups to take on these ceremonies, if they are even necessary.
