HELP! Need link to Dean talking about NC Verified Voter Paper Ballot Bill
where he mentions NC Legislature being a model for rest of country.

It was posted here on DU sometime...and I didn't get to "bookmark" it.

Anyone?

4. DU'ers who were Deaniacs and Kucinich supporters got that bill to NC
NC Legislature...and eventually had to get "Electronic Freedom Foundation" lawyer involved because of what we were up against. :D

Dean did a good job of "couching his response" and reading between the lines I could see that he was pointing out that there are "some Dem Officials" who are "using these machines despite their flaws"...but that he recognized that NC put in place a Law that required "Source Code Review" which "hopefully" will "minimize" HACKING!

He did not mention that the Democratically Controlled NC Senate didn't impliment the wording of our bill strongly enough that we had to SUE them and get an EFF Lawyer involved.

Still...it was great that Dean acknowledged the "Activist" NClinians who spent their own time and money ...GRATIS to push that bill through and there were fewer than 15 people Hard Core/Hard Fighting Activists who managed to get this BILL which is a MODEL to the rest of the States through the NC Legislature...which is controlled by DINO DEMS but we had a great NC Legislator who "STOOD TALL" who fought the "push back" from DEMOCRATIC OFFICIALS and CAME THROUGH FOR US IN THE END!

ELLIE KINNARD our STATE DEM SENATOR from CHAPEL HILL, NC...who really carried the day for us and fought to keep our bill out there and passed.

But the information from DU'ers in the Election Forum here and just our time here since "Selection 2000" plus some help from GOOGLE SEARCH really carried the DAY for this Legislation.

:-)'s I was so glad to see NC mentioned by Dean..plus we have Jerry Meek who is Chair of NC State Dem Party....a GOOD GUY...GREAT PROGRESSIVE!!!

2. my favorite parts
Here is a a recent interview with Howard Dean, Chairman of DNC
about electronic voting. The issue is perculating a bit higher to
the top...

Excerpts:

"There have been some success stories in North Carolina, for
example, the legislature wrote the bill so that essentially
Diebold's unwillingness to provide source codes or any kind of
reliability disqualified them from the bidding. So, we're pushing
back on this hard...."

"These machines are a problem. This is not some Internet conspiracy;
this is a serious problem that faces American democracy. These
machines are not reliable and they shouldn't be used. We should not
be using machines in this country where the results of the vote
can't be verified after the fact. Period. Any machines"
