growing pains
Without hardship there would never be innovation.

America is not the same neighbor I grew up with. And while I watched with dismay, dissappointment and anger what George W. Bush has wrought - the only thing that gives me pause and hope is that with every action, there will be an equal opposite reaction. It is happening now, as we speak.

You are losing your image.....did you know that? And your perception of your own nation is revealing what many of us quietly discussed for years. No - we aren't anti american - for we love america as an idea....but as a fascist empire....well....you suck. But don't dismay too much....because I know one thing - and that is that the spirit will prevail and Bush/fascism will fail. He is failing now. His popularity is at an all time low - and nothing can change that - not even going to war with Iran.

In order for lessons to be firmly engrained in a person/civilization - failure must occur - for lessons are not really firmly learned if every single thing is done right. America, as an idea, is witnessing growing pains - and the result might be that she will not be the shining beacon on the hill(well she never really was - except in your own mind, but that is another discussion) Germany went through the same thing - as did the USSR....as did Rome, England, Spain and France. You cannot win the middle east and you know this in your heart - soon your mind will accept it.....and then it is only a matter of time before pulling out....embracing innovation to lead your nation to a prosperity that excludes middle eastern oil.

I feel badly that you must go through this - for there will be much much much hardship - it scares me to be frank....but I have faith in the human condition to reach for better days. I have faith in you. I must....or else I'd go mad.

1. I just wish it didn't happen during my child's lifetime
Yeah, selfish, but that's how it is being a parent. If it were just me, I could tolerate the pain, it's having a child, especially a male child, who might be forced to fight for this madness.

It will take that long for the recovery to finally be complete.
