Gov. Corzine's Former Girlfriend Accused Of Fiscal Malpractice

NEWARK, N.J. -- WNBC.com has learned that a federal subpoena was served Tuesday at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Communications Workers of America in connection with the union activities of Carla Katz who until last week headed Local 1034 of the CWA in New Jersey.

Katz, former girlfriend of New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, was forced to give up her duties in the union after the national union charged that Katz and Local 1034's board engaged in fiscal malpractice and suppression of dissent.

A July 3 report by Larry Cohen, national CWA president, found "a clear and ongoing pattern" of fiscal wrongdoing by Katz.

Katz was in federal court in New Jersey Wednesday challenging the CWA's action against her.

She has denied the union's charges, calling them "a travesty."
