Convenience Store Worker Killed While On Break

A 7-Eleven worker was stabbed to death outside a Lowell store during a smoking break Saturday morning, police said. Lowell police responded to reports of a stabbing at about 6:45 a.m. Witnesses said Mazen Alwarad, 37, of Lowell, has just left the store when he was attacked by three men in the parking lot. Alwarad was taken by helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Alwarad had a family and had been working there since July, according to 7-Eleven. 7-Eleven said it appears to be a random act of violence.


Bar worker killed in apparent vehicle homicide

BENSALEM, Pa. - A 30-year-old Philadelphia man was killed Saturday night when a bar patron who was deemed too drunk to be served slammed his truck into the front of the building, police said. The dead man, William Sullo, 30, was working at the Salutes Bar on the 2500 block of Knights Road that evening when 35-year-old Jose Maldonado-Luzuriaga, a Bensalem resident, came in to get a drink. A bartender flagged Maldonado-Luzuriaga and refused to serve him, saying the man was intoxicated.

Landscape Worker Killed By Mulch Grinder Identified

Police in Winston-Salem are investigating a fatal accident that took place early Saturday morning. In a news release to WFMY News 2, they say the man was employed with a landscape contracting company. The accident happened when Thomas Guy Rayle, 45, fell into the back of the truck where debris is ground into mulch. Rayle became entangled in the grinders and died from his injuries. Officers closed Patterson Avenue for 2 to 3 hours during the investigation. Police say it's an ongoing investigation.

Paper mill worker killed in accident

A worker was killed in an accident at a Kimberly-Clark Corp. mill in Mobile on Thursday, a company spokesman said. Richard C. Smith, 57, of Satsuma, was fatally injured while performing maintenance in the pulp preparation area of the mill, said David Dickson, spokesman for Dallas-based Kimberly-Clark. Dickson on Friday said the cause of the accident was still unknown. He said he had no other details about the incident. Company officials were working with the Mobile Police Department and the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration, who have been investigating the incident, he said. Operations at the mill were halted following the incident, Dickson said, and officials Friday afternoon were still considering when to restart. Smith, an operation technician, worked for Kimberly-Clark for 32 years.
