STAMFORD -- Mayor Dannel Malloy's inability to find more Connecticut workers jobs at the state's largest job site will bring unionized laborers back to Stamford on Monday in protest of the mayor's inaction, said the event's spokesman.

Connecticut construction workers from the Connecticut Laborers' District Council (CLDC) and members of the Connecticut First Coalition will hold a major demonstration outside the Stamford Government Center on Monday at 8 a.m. The business manager of CLDC and co-director of Connecticut First Coalition, Charles LeConche, will be headlining the event.

"To date, I have heard a lot of talk from Mayor Malloy, but no results," said LeConche, who is also the spokesman of the protest. "In these tough economic times, Connecticut families cannot afford to have 'no results' politicians in office."

Since their first demonstration in October, CLDC has not made any headway in getting more Connecticut laborers jobs at the Harbor Point project in Stamford's South End, he said.

The developer, Building and Land Technology (B<), took over the Harbor Point project late this summer from its original developer Antares. B< then hired a Texas-based contractor to build the $3 billion, 7. 6 million square foot project. It is currently the largest development in Connecticut.

CLDC drew an enormous crowd last October when they met in front of the Harbor Point project to protest B<'s hiring of out-of-state workers to perform the work. Non-union, out-of-state workers typically work for lower wages and no benefits, they said.
