http://www.laborradio.org/node/102262009 is shaping up to be a big year for contract negotiations. In addition to the ongoing contract negotiations between Hollywood producers and the Screen Actor’s Guild which could lead to an entertainment strike, a number of major union contracts are set to expire. The largest is between the Communication Workers of America and AT&T. The contract covers 102,000 workers. Also up for negotiation will be the contract covering New York City’s 78,000 teachers and faculty represented by the American Federation of Teachers. A concessionary contract signed by workers represented by the Machinists union while United Airlines was facing bankruptcy also expire toward the end of this year. It is a safe bet that workers will be seeking justification in the sacrifices they made to help keep the airline afloat.
